Black Diamond BBQ - McAllen — Restaurant in McAllen

My family and I went there today for lunch. It was our first time there and had read some good reviews on this place. Place was completely empty with two female employees (an older woman and young girl) working behind the counter. As we walked up to order they stood there giggling at each other like a couple of 12 year old girls. Even while ordering and as we asked questions they looked at each other giggling. They were giggling and smiling that I thought maybe they didn’t speak English only to find out that wasn’t the case. We ordered the 2 brisket sandwiches and one ice cream scoop of potato salad each and a chicken breast plate that had exactly 6 slices of a chicken breast w two sides and two drinks totaling $52. Brisket was delicious but sides were mediocre. Macaroni and cheese tasted like boxed shells and cheese. Potatoe salad was dry and pulled from a Tupperware container. STRONGLY recommend you take your money elsewhere. This was our FIRST and LAST time here. Should’ve stuck w our old reliable Willie B’s in Alamo or Reyna’s in Weslaco. During our clinc site visit today, we chose to eat at Black Diamond for lunch. They offered a lunch special, which I was able to order the three pork ribs w/ two sides ( potato salad and chaŕro beans). The ribs were extremely moist, tender, & flavorful. Since moving to this area of Texas in the last six months I have begun to look forward to great charro beans and these did not disappoint! They are in my top 5 that I am willing to drive from Harlingen to McAllen just to get these charro beans! They are a meal w/n themselves! They had smoked sausage, jalapeños, and other great seasonings to make them stand out on their own. Now the potato salad, ummm, let's just say it was not for me. However, my lunch special was only $11.99! This was awesome for the amount of food I got. Now, my co-worker ordered the one meat plate w/the brisket, mashed baked potatoe, & baked beans. Her brisket looked very moist and tender as well and she stated that it was good as well as her sides. The size of the sides that they give you is very generous. Why is this place called BBQ? Went in for the first time and the place was empty and dark- no music not even inviting lighting. Ordered 1 lb of brisket, turkey, and sausage and paid $44 plus tip! Should've saved the tip for myself to get lunch elsewhere because all the food straight to the trash. The lady that packed my order gave me what seemed to be the last of the bbq- ALL fatty and no flavor and this was at around 130 in the afternoon! . She didnt even slice it correctly ( yes there is a method to slicing brisket!)The turkey was EXTRA DRY and no flavor! The sausage? What kind of sausage was that!? 😳😳 First and Last time i go there.
