La Jaiba Shrimp House — Restaurant in McAllen

It was the most horrible experiences we have had at a restaurant. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday and he ordered the "cazuela" at over 20 dollars a dish as did one of my sons. It is supposed to have octopus, scallops, shrimp, fish, mushrooms, and crab legs in a broth and looks delicious in the pics they have advertising it. They were served dishes that looked nothing like the pics with no octopus, the shrimp were tiny, and the one scallop they found was brown and disintegrating as were the mushrooms. The one waitress saw how bad the dishes were and seemed to be on the phone with the owner, but to no avail. I on the other hand, ordered a seafood botana for 2 to split with my son and it arrived after everyone else had eaten and was missing the fried shrimp. Never again. My husband was disappointed with his birthday dinner and we will not be eating...

I have been coming here for 1/2 my life... Great food and atmosphere... For the past 2 years We have begun looking for another place to go and have dinner and drinks... With No exaggeration I would come here 2-3 times a week for Social time with spouse and friends... We have seen staff go and come back and leave again... Our bill would be in the High end and has come to Once a week and the amount spend($300 to $400 ) has gone to $20 to $100... Only (2 or 3 guest) The Owners are Wonderful but the Evening Manager is rude and has had words with my company. She has yet to tell me anything but as management background it is Very Wrong... If we were to keep staff from working then I can understand... We give waiters a chance but when service is not good We stick to the best... To many issues and Not allowing certain waiter to speak or talk to us is just Wrong in so...

Super disgusted. When we got there, the afternoon waitress explained to us that due to Covid-19 they couldn’t give menus per county orders, and we could look online at the menu on our phone. Understandable, but I also know that she should be wearing a face mask. We knew what we wanted so no big deal. We were served out plates with errors. Mind you, only us and one other couple were there. She then proceeded to cough and sneeze all over the restaurant with no mask. Didn’t wash her hands, then sat down to count her tips. No washing of hands....
