the 3 star service isn’t for the host/hostess, it was for the manager ANTONIO. My friends & I booked the private room to celebrate a birthday party. Our server for the night Aaron was amazing, so sweet & attentive. First off I wanted to come a couple hours before the reservation to decorate the room . They let me know the day before the dinner that their manager had a meeting & wanted me to come an hour before our original reservation to decorate . I let them know that wasn’t going to work for me & they reassured me that was fine & sb would be there to let me in . Due to inconveniences on that day I arrived around the time they originally wanted me to & I was still being told to wait for the manager . Mind you I’m already behind in my day, I arrive around the time frame they originally wanted me to & was still being told to wait . We waited for about 20-25 minutes to decorate , thus resulting in us pushing back our reservation time again . While waiting up front the manager walks past me not saying anything & goes to set up what I soon found out was our room . So his meeting is over at this point and we are still waiting to decorate because they are setting up the table . Why can’t we knock out 2 birds with one stone, you all can set up your table & we decorate the room . Finally when we get in the room to decorate he’s watching us & is putting restrictions on how we decorate . Before entering the room I asked if we could put tape on the walls, one of the host asked him & he said only if it was double sided. Great that’s what we have , we thought we ran out of tape & I asked if we could borrow a couple strips. The server goes & returns without the tape neither an answer. Viewing from the conversation & no tape I assumed he told the server not to give us any. Okay cool , I ask for a stepping stool to get the streamers on the wall . They get me the stool but instantly he’s start talking to the server (speaking in Spanish, which I don’t speak). Basically tells her we can’t put it there bc we’ll damage the walls , mind you walls are wooden & at first it was okay with double sided tape which we have . So we basically were confided to one corner of the room to decorate , so we didn’t get to use all the decorations that were bought . One top of that they charged us $30 just to put our cake in the fridge . All in all, nice restaurant servers are awesome but because of the manager ANTONIO I will not be back. After being purposely stalled, discriminated & just blatantly outcasted and being made uncomfortable we will not be returning. Even his employees were uncomfortable with how we were being treated, sucks they have to work under an individual like that . FYI before sb tries to blame the employees for anything they were only doing their job & what they were told . I observed this man make the decisions &...
Read moreWent to RU to celebrate one of my best friend's birthday. First thing when walking in, the hostesses in the front are the firsts to take you out of that fancy fine dining experience since they have poor self presentation, and some waiter/waitresses aren't dressed accordingly in my opinion for a restaurant marketing themselves as a fine dining or luxury dining experience. We were then seated and our waitress started pouring bottles of Fiji water into our cups, everything was good service wise until that point, however, as the night went on the waitress lacked attention to our table and she ROLLED her eyes at the birthday girl several times when asked for more water or anything else she was annoyed to serve us I guess. They took like 15 minutes after bringing me and my friend our sushi rolls to bring us chopsticks or a clean fork to start eating, we had to ask like 3 times and the restaurant was not busy enough to take them that long to bring us that. The food was okay but not good enough in my opinion for the price, we tried several appetizers and entrees but they were just okay. My sister ordered a Ribeye aguachile and on her ticket they charged her the ribeye (waitress did not specify the weight of the cut when my sister ordered) which was $54 and an additional $10 to make it aguachile like??? the dish was on the menu, it wasn't ordered a la carte for it to be charged separately, one of my other friends ordered an entree that was cheaper on her menu and on her bill they charged it $5 more, turns out they have old menus given out where prices are different and they don't care and did not respect the price she saw on the menu given to her. Also, they don't tell you but they charge you like $5 for the Fiji water they give you in the beginning and they don't ask if you want it or not so that's the first thing you get charged for before even ordering anything. When wanting to cut the cake, the waitress informed my friend she had to pay $30 dollars for cake cutting which is outrageous to me and proceeded to take forever to bring the knife and plates. I would understand if maybe they paid the dishwashers more for more plates being used but we all know that's money the restaurant pockets. Overall, the food is just not worth the price, the service was really bad not only from the waitress but also from the managers, and also the bathrooms look like club restrooms also not 'elegant' for what they market for. Don't...
Read moreRU is an amazing addition to the RGV culinary scene. Consisting of a Mexican fine dining inspired menu with just the right amount of valley flair and flavor.
When you enter RU you are greeted by a beautiful waiting space, and friendly hostesses. The restaurant space embodies a perfect blend of complementing contemporary and modern decor. Each table has comfortable seating and meticulously set tables. The dining room is an open floor plan, though once seated the ambiance feels like you are in your own private space. There is one room with a beautiful large granite table for parties or private events.
Service is excellent, even for opening night the staff was attentive but not hovering. Shortly after being seated you are greeted by RU’s mixologists who recommend a cocktail based on your preference and palate. Their mixologists were quick and talented, even toping each drink with mint and a lightly torched rosemary garnish. Even if you are not a drinker I highly recommend trying one of the cocktails!
Food was incredible, period! We had the Octopus Tiradito, and Cucumber Sushi for an appetizer. One thing I must note with the appetizers was the cook on the Octopus, to my excitement it was cooked perfectly, perfect texture and flavor (this is a must try). Our entrees were the Duck in Morita Cream (slightly different cook on the duck than most dishes, leaning closer to a slow roast rather than a sear to Mid Rare. However it was excellent, moist and tender enough to cut with my fork. The seasoning and flavor went perfect with the savory sauce and potatoes). The wife had the Picanha Tacos with Marrow (each meal is served with two different refried beans, salsa, and chimichuri, which were perfect along side her tacos. Perfect cook on the steak and marrow melted over top). Dessert was the Corn Flan (light and sweet flan atop a spongy corn cake, complemented with diced grapes and a strawberry flower.) one thing to note of all the dishes was the micro greens and flower petals complementing them, this added a nice extra layer of presentation and flavor.
We would also like to give a huge compliment to our waitress Diana. She was extremely patient with us as we asked questions about the menu and took our time enjoying the evening.
♾️/10 Highly recommend RU to...
