Ostioneria Michoacan McAllen — Restaurant in McAllen

First time at this restaurant and it looked promising because of all the 5 star reviews. Unfortunately, it wasn't great for the wife and I. From the get go the owner/ manager looked extremely rushed. We sat and waited for menus and drinks. It looked understaffed, took 15 mins to bring out the chips and salsa which was delicious. The 2 waiters that were nearby just kept on passing us by without asking us or offering anything. They were more focused on their bigger tables. 30 mins went by till the owner/ manager asked us for drinks and we still didn't get menus. The family that sat after us had menus and their drink order and taken. Finally got drinks and we asked for menus. She left but forgot about our menus because of the family after us. We finally ordered and in total was about 25 mins till we got our food. So in total time it was 52mins from sitting to receiving our food. The food was delicious, a little on the cold side but delicious. We ate and our plates were removed. Waited 10 mins for someone to bring me the receipt so we could pay and leave and no one acknowledged me. I asked the waiter closest to me to bring me the total and he said ok then just left and started counting tips completely forgetting my request. I finally got tired of waiting and I walked up to the owner/manager and asked for my total. She apologized and what not. All in all we were there for such a long time just for a simple dinner. Went there today bc my husband wanted to eat there for his bday. Very disappointed he ordered shrimp Al mojo de aho. I ordered whole catfish. There was no sauce on the shrimp just a few shrimp and cut up garlic underneath. It looked pitiful. The tiny salad had one piece of cucumber, one slice of tiny tomato and a slice of orange which we didn’t eat. My catfish looked like it had been on a diet for a month. Very dry, small, and skinny. Didn’t even eat the rice.We also got a half of a piece of bread each! If we wanted another piece of bread we had to pay for it. I gave my piece of bread to my husband instead. Not exactly a good bday lunch. I told the waitress it was my husband’s bday bc a few years ago we went on his bday and they gave him a free slice of flan. Not so lucky this time. Went to meet friends for lunch at their suggestion. It was my first time there. You get 1 small basket of tortilla chips. If you want more you'll be charged extra. I ordered blackened fish n shrimp. When I got my order half the fish was raw. I sent it back and told waitress I didn't want it back. Shortly after the manager came to the table say that whether I wanted the fish back or not I would be charged for it. My friends commented that the service had definitely changed. The manager later came back and told me that I wouldn't be charged and that she had taken an additional $6 off the ticket. I thanked her for her consideration.
