Surfing Crab Mcallen — Restaurant in McAllen

The hostess who greeted us as we walked in was very cold. She did not even ask if we wanted a table or booth. She took us directly to the bar area. I advised her that we wanted a booth & she just turned around & took us to a booth in the main dining room area & did not even advise us that a waitstaff would be with us. We waited for a long time with no service at all. I had to go up front to the hostess section & advise the two hostesses that were just standing there talking to each other that we needed to be serviced at our table. We finally were serviced within minutes. The wait staff that attended us was excellent & apologized to us on our long wait. There was no reason for us to wait long for service. We went after the lunch period. There were only 3 other tables being occupied with customers. The food was great, but the customer service was unsatisfactory. My boyfriend and I went tonight for their soft opening it was the second day open the server was immaculate and very friendly she was so sweet her name was Mandy such a great server left her a really good tip the management was so friendly and nice to us they were very professional and excited about the restaurant the busters and other workers were each working alongside each other and helping each other out which I found very impressive and it just looked like an overall good workplace and environment for the people working at surfing crab my boyfriend enjoyed the shrimp we ordered a pound and we got corn and edamame and sweet potatoes and hush puppies everything was delicious our tummies were full and the food was great tasting atmosphere was fun beautifully decorated awesome place to be I highly recommend this place five stars beyond my expectation for it being a barely opened restaurant if they did good just the second day opening I could imagine them a year from now this place is going...

Food was awesome, but the rest was "meh".

So my wife and I decided to have a lil dinner date together after a long day with the kids. Got to the restaurant around 8:30-9 p.m., the wait for the two of us was not that bad, 15 min at most. We sat at the bar booths and was waited by the bartender. Very nice and friendly staff, but that section seemed to be the most hectic of the restaurant. They not only had to complete drink orders, serve the bar but also food for the a few booths which seemed a bit too much. They took our order and the meal did not take long to arrive so the kitchen is top-notch, but the service afterwards needs work and was rushed so they could go back to the bar. To make matters worse, the POS was not fully functioning so we couldn't even sign the check. The spacing I'd say is okay, but better than King Krabz. Next time, if we get seated at a better spot and the experience differs, then i'll update...
