JJ Fish & Chicken McDonough — Restaurant in McDonough

If you're not hip to JJ Fish & Chicken, but can appreciate some good fried food from time to time, this is definitely a place worth trying. Coming from the Southside of Chicago myself, JJ's is never too hard to find and a pretty regular spot to grab a chicken wing or catfish nugget dinner on a Friday night, or a Platter for an upcoming event. I initially tried the JJ Fish and Chicken here in McDonough out of nostalgia and expected nothing special. My hometown would be so disappointed in me when I say that the JJ Fish & Chicken out here is doing a great job (probably better than in Chicago).

Wait... hear me out though!

The chicken and fish is cooked perfectly; juicy and flavorful. They aren't stingy on the mild sauce (which everybody from Chicago knows how important that is). The establishment itself is clean, so you can feel comfortable eating inside. Finally, the people cooking and serving seemed to be happy there, which is always a plus when you're a customer. If I had any complaint, it'd be that they have a wall of license plates from various states, but for the life of me, I didn't see one from Illinois! What's up...

I am plant based but every now and then I will take a break and have a meat dish on Saturday so I was in the area and saw this place and it was extremely busy so I said to myself "they must have good food" so I will give it a try. I ordered the fish and chicken strips meal and I was not impressed. The portions were large but everything tasted the same, the fish tasted like the chicken" which tasted like the potatoes.. Then it had a strange dusting of some type of mysterious white powder on top of all the food. Usually fried fish and chicken is seasoned with black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and maybe a little paprika. This food just tasted like corn meal and salt. Salt was everywhere which to me, made the food inedible. The fries were dusted with a coating or light batter on the outside which I hate! I ate a piece of the fish and a half of the chicken strip and tossed the rest in the garbage. However, I must say I enjoyed the can of Diet Coke the most, it was excellent! After this meal I will forget about eating meat for the next...

This is my favorite location although I like them all. I LOVE this at 884 Hampton Rd in McDonough Their staff members are the friendliest and they ALWAYS listen to my request asking that my fish be cook (fried hard extra crispy) to perfection. The chicken has always been freshly cooked, seasoned well and hot rather I walk or call the order in. The restaurant is extremely clean inside and out. If I order in person, it’s usually a staff member cleaning, not just standing around. They offer you the ability to grab your condiments including napkins to your necessity, by placing a huge stock of everything running over in bins placed on a table located where you CANNOT miss it. They offer fresh drinks with a lemon half in it. I have purchased from other locations, but this is the TOP NOTCH with no comparison by far. Five stars are not enough for me, but this is what google offers, so I will go with the 5’s. I have felt this way since my first time visiting the location in August 2023. Absolutely nothing has changed. I’m one HAPPY LIFETIME...
