This place is a good spot in Mcgregor for some good BBQ. The menu is great take on a traditional BBQ menu. Pushing the limits on what a BBQ Restaurant is known for and I give them a lot of props for serving what they do here! Takes a lot to venture outside the box.
Onto the food....!
Most of the time when I order pork I'm disappointed because I have been spoiled on real pulled pork from the Carolinas, George and Virginia. Typically pulled pork outside of these states just isn't good. Usually having that old, dirty, stale pig taste. For the first time in a long time I had pulled pork here that actually tasted like a fresh clean pig that hasn't sat around too long and was quite enjoyable. The coleslaw was a good complement to the sandwich it didn't overpower it and the sauce was a nice touch. You get a little sweetness from the slaw and a little sour from the pickles and sauce which paired very well with their version of pulled pork. Over all great sandwich!
The white trash burrito is definitely a good stoner burrito. This thing is a sloppy good time. It is a bit of a mush burrito because the flavors run together until you bite into the sausages and it really breaks up the profile at that point. Then taking the next bite it's hard to tell what you're tasting. With that said if your hungry and need to satisfy the urge and you don't know what to order this is for you.
The chop beef is very good. Their beef is actually chopped not processed or pulled. The texture is what you would expect from chop beef and the flavor is on point. I think if they could catch some of those beef drippings in a bottle and squeeze a bit on these sandwiches they will be hard to beat. That little extra moisture with the sliky texture from the drippings would knock this sandwich out of this world.
The small house salad is nice because it's a leafy green salad not just iceberg lettuce. The ranch is the one we all look forward to when we go out to eat.
The Cobbler was amazing! Seriously! It has been so long since I had a Cobbler that wasn't so sweet you couldn't taste what you were eating. Every flavor in this dish was easily picked up! Making this my favorite part of the meal. If I wasn't so full I would have eaten 3 servings easily! Definitely a must try for anyone!
Also while your their pick up a bottle of that Felony BBQ AP seasoning they have for sale! I think you'll be happy with what you can create with these. Try them...
Read moreTook my brother in law here since he is from out of state and I wanted him to have some BBQ while he was here. Now I have to admit, Coaches wasn't my first or second choice, in fact I almost never come to Coaches because previously the food had been mid at best. But... We came in and boy were we surprised. The food was great! The service was friendly and the place was clean. Let me tell you bout this grub.
The Ribs were on point, fatty, flavorful, fall off the bone and seasoned perfectly with their dry rub. I am very picky with ribs and these were hittin on all cylinders.
The smoked turkey was moist, flavorful and fell apart in the mouth.
The Brisket was my only complaint. While the flavor was there, it was dry and the texture wasn't fall apart. Bark was good but I would highly suggest letting the brisket rest in tallow from the trimmings to keep it moist.
Mac N Cheese was good, needed a little salt and pepper but other than that it was good and an easy fix.
Campfire beans.. Boi lemme tell you somethin, I am picky with beans... Really picky... So much in fact that I started making my own beans due to receiving cold canned beans at another BBQ spot (Looking at you Uncle Dan's, too focused on them massages I see.) I have high expectations for BBQ beans... These campfire beans were on point.. If they were canned then they fooled me and I'll take it.
Overall I had a 9/10 experience the last time I came in and from what I hear from co-workers, Coaches has stepped up quite a bit lately and I hope that continues to be true on my next visit because I would love to have to not travel for good BBQ. A huge shout out to the staff that was on shift when I was in. Whatever changes y'all made is workin, just show that brisket a...
Read moreVery unimpressive and overpriced for what I have received. I ordered ribs with jalapeno cheddar cheese sausage with corn on the cob and coleslaw..... guy asked me if I wanted butter and then he tried to give me Whipped soybean oil!.. this is freaking Texas and this is supposed to be a barbecue joint and they don't have any butter in the building but I let that one go I guess I will eat my corn on the cob with no butter because the guy behind the counter has no idea what butter is!!! I digress the ribs were definitely fall off the bone which would have been awesome if they had any flavor at all. I kid you not they tasted like they were boiled... so if you're really old and you don't have teeth and can't stand flavor in your food you'll love the ribs but if you want flavor like BBQ should have in the state of Texas don't come here. I thought the sausage with jalapeno and cheddar cheese would be good instead it was an oily mess because I don't know what kind of cheese that was put cheddar cheese was not it. It seemed to be some kind of cheese or oil based food that you get out of a can. If you like to Derek weida cheese whiz. If you like generic cheese whiz like the bad tasting stuff then this is for you. I think the corn was the best part which was a full ear of corn if these people would have spent some money on some butter instead of a huge front porch that no one uses I think they would have more than three customers on Saturday afternoon. I hope the owner reads this and takes this to Heart but considering that they this is a big Texas barbecue place they don't have any butter in the building I would...
