Since moving here out of state, this palce has been the BEST place in town for sushi, my family has consistently enjoyed coming too. Borum and her staff have done a GREAT job running this place for the owners (who thankfully- stepped away from the business). She and her team have done a fantastic job, turning around management and moral here and I'm happy for her and her team that this place is FINALLY thriving! I actually used to work here, so I know a thing or two about how much this place has changed for THE BETTER, since Borum started to run the business. My family has come back to dining here because of her and the improvements she's made. We hardly ever have to "wait" long for a table, the staff treats us like VIP and the quality grade sushi is the best your gonna get here in this town- trust me. I've been to A LOT of sushi restaurants across the country and Umai is my family's FIRST choice, here in town for sushi, atmosphere and price. * Special shout out side note* to Borum and her husband (head sushi chef) who welcomed their FIRST BABY BOY 👶 approx 6 months ago (about time)!!! My family and I are SO happy for...
Read moreI wanted to check out Adriatic Village and Umai Sushi happened to be in the village. We went for lunch at around 11:30AM, first ones in. The exterior is inconspicuous and easy to miss but the interior is pretty intimate and cozy, for a sushi joint. Umai seems to be a popular lunch spot for business professionals, due to their lunch specials. The sushi was exceptional. We ordered a 15 piece sashimi plate, a Samurai roll and a Lobster roll. The sashimi plate came with a 3 pieces of otoro to our surprise, and the quality is superb. The Lobster roll arrived with fried chunks of lobster meat covered in panko atop of a larger-than-usual roll (fried lobster tail, asparagus, avocado, cream cheese, topped with Masago, spicy mayo and eel sauce). If you are hungry, the Lobster roll will surely fill you up! We were satisfied with our food, so no complaints there. The service was great up until the lunch rush (12PM on a Friday), then it really diminished. The reason is there was only one waitress waiting and seating patrons down, which for a popular sushi spot, is...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Umai Sushi in McKinney and it far exceeded our expectations.
Fresh sushi and artfully presented Japanese cuisine reflect the skill and care of the owners and their kitchen crew.
Try starting with the Peppered Tuna served on a spring salad mix with both a wasabi sauce and an avocado sauce-a terrific burst of flavors-this was my favorite dish.
We also sampled the Stuffed Jalapeno and Veggie Tempura appetizers – both excellent. The creative menu offers plenty of choices, and the Sushi was fresh, flavorful, and portions were generous. (recommend the Stone Bridge and also the Shrimp Popcorn Roll).
Try finishing your meal with one of the excellent dessert offerings such as the Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream. We will definitely return to this excellent restaurant. One more note: they are open for dinner seven days a week, but do not serve lunch. Limited street parking but there is free garage parking just...
