My family and I had a very horrible experience at this walmart. We ordered a cake for my sister's graduation party, showing the lady a photo of how we wanted it and described exactly how we wanted it. On the day of the party when we went to pick the cake up it looked horrible. There was barely any frosting on it, so you could basically see the chocolate cake underneath. It made the cake look dirty even. The design was not remotely similar to the photo we showed, and even the color of the cake was completely off. We asked for a pastel sage green, and if that wasn't clear enough it was all in the photo. Yet the cake was a neon green like it was for a little boy's birthday party. The words weren't centered and the name was spelled wrong. It looked horrible so we took it to the manager and her customer service was incredibly rude. She showed no concern for the issue and said there is nothing she could do about it, and that if we wanted it fixed it would take hours. With little time for the party we ended up having to take the cake. After seeing it my sister was livid so she phoned a different manager about it. On the phone he kindly apologized and offered a full refund, but when my mom went in to get her refund he deliberately made her stand there and wait 30 minutes before reluctantly helping her, giving her attitude along with that. He questioned her on why she didn't bring the cake back to return it and didn't even give the full refund after telling us he would on the phone. What were we supposed to do hours before the party we had better things to do than run around finding a different cake because Walmart screwed up our order. It was blatant racism because he had no attitude on the phone but when my mom went in person he suddenly developed an attitude. I work in food service and we make it a priority to send out our food not looking like crap, and if a customer is ever unsatisfied we give them full attention and do everything we can to help them. The issue here, more than the horrible cake is the customer service. Some of these managers need to learn how to manage a business and before that how to treat human beings because it's obvious they don't know how. The good cake in the photos is the picture we showed them and how we asked them to make it and the other three are what we got.

Ah, Walmart McKinney. I came in for deodorant and left with a kayak, 37 cans of off-brand energy drink, a cactus named Greg, and a new appreciation for the unpredictability of life. Let me set the scene: the greeter at the front looked like he’d seen things. REAL things. He nodded at me like we both knew I wasn’t mentally prepared for aisle 14, aka “The Abyss Where Seasonal Decorations Go to Die.” Christmas next to Halloween next to Fourth of July. It was a patriotic pumpkin wonderland. The layout of the store is part grocery store, part obstacle course. I spent 15 minutes looking for milk and ended up in the automotive section talking to a man who swears by duct tape as a cure-all. I believed him. His car was duct-taped together in the parking lot. It ran. Employees were helpful-ish. I asked one where the light bulbs were, and she pointed in a vague direction and whispered, “May the odds be ever in your favor.” I respected that. Then there’s the clientele: One guy was wearing a tinfoil hat and asking Siri for lotto numbers on a flip phone. Another woman was pushing a cart filled only with frozen corn dogs and a sense of urgency. I made eye contact with a baby who definitely had wisdom beyond his years. The checkout was a thrilling finale. I used self-checkout, which felt like a high-stakes game show where the prize is bagging your own groceries before the machine starts yelling. “Unexpected item in the bagging area” — yeah, that’s my soul. In summary: If you want a shopping trip that feels like a scavenger hunt meets a sitcom, Walmart McKinney is your arena. Don’t go in with a plan. Just go with your heart. And maybe a helmet.

I have had problems in the tire department and now, I have had a disaster in the photo department. It is stunning how screwed up it was. I ordered a photobook on the 18th and received an email on the 19th that it was ready. I stopped by in the 20th to pickup. Aubree told me she did not know how to run the laminator. Come back later. I received a call on the evening of the 20th that said they were out of books. They would have a new one tomorrow. I stopped by on the 21st and waited three hours. They told me the book was made, but it was given to someone else. I returned on the 22nd and the new book they were going to receive was not there. The manager, Jake drove to the Custer rd store to pickup a book. 2 hours later he returned and someone put the book together without the cover and the back. They had a new book delivered and finally after six and a half hours, the book was finished. A total of 10 hours of waiting for one photobook. Jake and Clint did give me a gift card, plus a refund of the original purchase price. I watched the team working there struggle through the Christmas rush and they did work their butts off. It is the system that failed, not the employees. I would love to see someone face when they open the photobook on Christmas day. I do hope they enjoy my vacation photos.

This review is being written for the Automotive service center specifically, having not had a negative experience with any other part of this store. I don't frequent, nor have I done any business with the Walmart automotive department. From now on, I will recommend everyone I come in contact with to stay away as well. My daughter-in-law had a dead battery this morning. She's a college student, working part time and on a budget so we got her a battery from the local Walmart. I purchased said battery at 2:46pm this afternoon, having not had an opportunity to take out the old battery, the core charge was fine as I was going immediately up the street to swap them out and bring the battery back. I realized as I was pulling into her apartments, that he didn't give me a receipt for the core return, which I hadn't imagined would be an issue given I would be returning shortly with the core. Changed the battery, showered and returned to the automotive counter at 4:35pm. That's around 1.75 hours later (give or take a minute or three) to find nobody at the counter for several minutes, until an employee came meandering over from wherever he had been to behind the counter. I saw his name tag (department manager) and told him the situation. I hadn't been given a receipt but that I could tell him the time of purchase, and describe the employee who I had purchased it from. He refused to put forth any effort to assist, and said he wouldn't do anything without a receipt and said he couldn't look up the transaction. I asked for a member of upper management or a store manager to help resolve the issue. (it's $12, but to a college student.. That's a meal or gas to get to work) I stood, and I waited for a member of store management. I then saw emerge from the shop, the technician that had been behind the counter at time of the battery purchase who recognized weme,as well as shortly after the employee I had purchased the battery from returning from lunch break. I told him he hadn't given me a receipt, but that I was there to return the core. He was apologetic, and was going to process the core credit for me (I guess a department teammate has more knowledge of the system than a department manager...?) Until the department manager came meandering back over from wherever he may have disappeared to again and stopped the teammate (Jason) from issuing the credit. I would completely understand the issue had I been given a receipt, and I had lost it... That would be my fault .. But through no fault of my own, I can't furnish something I wasn't provided. I left the core with them, it's useless to us.. So now they have $12 that doesn't belong to them. This will be going up the chain until I get...

Jan 2002: So I'm having trouble finding a certain medical item usually found in pharmacies. I'm having no luck finding it in the brand I need at CVS, Walgreen's, etc. So in desperation, I go to the Walmart app. It says they have it in stock at the Walmart Supercenter near my home. The app even tells me in which aisle I can find it. Pretty cool! I, therefore, travel the 5 miles or so at night to the store to get the much-needed item. Naturally, the shelf where it SHOULD be is empty. At this point, I know it's pretty much futile to ask an associate if THEY can find it; but my wife harangues me until I relent and show the pharmacy associate my phone app page that shows the item as "in stock". He says "Well, if it's not here, we're out. It'll probably come tomorrow." I respond by saying, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the system automatically reduce the inventory each time an item is purchased so that we'll be able to know if an item is out of stock?" He says, "Yeah, but that doesn't take into account broken items or theft." "So this app is basically useless then," I said as I walked off talking to myself. Not only do I have to check out items myself (without discount), but I can't even depend on items being available when their own inventory system is telling me they are! I really hate this store. Maybe I really WILL have to buy EVERYTHING from Amazon! Let's see if a Walmart supervisor or manager responds to this review. Hell, I'd even like an IT guy to respond by telling me how the app is updated, inventory-wise. I'm guessing that it SHOULD be updated near-real-time, if at all.

Sep 2001 (3 stars then): I enjoy the lower prices, but I must complain about management not allowing me any vacation time. Now that there are no check-out cashiers, I am left to check out my own purchases. I must assume, therefore, that I am an employee of Walmart. Since I perform all of the duties of a check-out clerk, why do I not receive any of...
