I went to PaPa today to get a to-go order.
When I arrived, a hostess greeted me and I looked through a menu. Oddly, I noticed the menu displayed different (higher) prices than online ordering systems.
I ordered three items. Yellowtail Scallion Maki Yellowtail Nigiri Yaki Udon Chicken
I paid, and the food was to be ready in about 20 minutes.
After waiting outside, I came back in about 15 minutes later and picked up my food. There were no seats available for people waiting on to-go orders. I had seen nobody enter the restaurant while I was waiting, and nobody was seated in the restaurant.
I drove home 5 minutes down the road, and immediately went inside and opened up my food.
I was immediately disappointed to find that there was absolutely no temperature barrier between the HOT Udon and the COLD sushi. The sushi container was noticeably warm.
I proceeded to open and eat the sushi, and found that the nigiri was poorly balanced. The fish appeared notably low quality, being grey with no hint of pink. It smelled fine, so I ate it. The cuts of fish were also much smaller than I'd typically expect, with way too much rice. The maki wasn't any better. The scallion was nearly imperceptible, and almost no fish was used. Both nigiri and maki were room temperature to slightly warm from being next to the Udon. How disappointing.
Next, I proceeded to try the udon. I found a few things. First off, it had a reasonable amount of chicken, coupled with onions, carrots, and broccoli. The chicken was dry and too lightly seasoned. The udon tasted pretty good, the onions were solidly good, and the carrots and broccoli were mostly just garnish.
All in all, I would not recommend this place. I understand that they are pretty new, and hopefully they will improve, but certainly not without some substantial improvements...
Read moreI read the positive reviews and placed an online order for pickup. The moment I walked into the restaurant, now Edamame Spicy, I should have known this was bad. The dining room was dim, old, and dated. That should not be an issue. The saddest thing is the sushi bar. I wanted to cancel the order immediately. However, I already paid when I placed the order. I took a look when I got to the car, my sushi boat for 2 looks so sad. The sashimi looks so pathetic. I did not want my husband to touch any more of the raw fish. They look stale. If we have food poisoning, I wouldn’t be surprised. And of course, I found hair on one of the salmon sashimi. This is one of the worst sushi experiences we have had. Trust me, my phone camera makes them look better than...
Read moreThe place was deserted; that should have clued me in.
The naruto was leaky. As in, the stuff inside it was leaking water onto the plate enough for me to have to relocate the pieces.
The specialty sushi was too salty.
And the homemade dumplings were just okay.
All in all I was expecting a lot more from a place rated so highly. I don't often give bad reviews but the owner needs to take a hard look as to why the shop is empty during prime lunch time...
