Our friends who live in Medina have been wanting us to visit corkscrew saloon for a while now. Everything finally lined up for us to join them recently. Having not known anything about the restaurant before hand, I was not expecting to pull into the parking lot of what is essentially a very large vintage home. Upon walking in, confirmed that this is indeed a restaurant that operates in what is essentially a residential home. Our table reservations were upstairs so that had us walking up the flight of stairs and taking a seat in a fairly decent sized room off the main hall. Menu wise, amazing choices and it was quite difficult to narrow our choices down. Our server was quick to bring beverages and refills and the appetizers and food came out fairly quickly for how busy the restaurant was. Everyone was quite happy with their choices and we all did a little sampling of each other's meals. The food was excellent and I would absolutely return to try more of the food options in the future. My biggest complaint of the evening had to do with the overall size of the room we were in and how many people they had sitting within. When we first sat at our table, there was a party of 6(or could have been 8) near us that were exceptionally loud for how small the space was. Loud enough my watch was warning of hearing damage based on the dB reading. That party left, volume returned to normal background and other guests were speaking at reasonable levels. Then another large party arrived and it was almost the exact same behavior. I could not believe how loud they were being given the size of the space. I walked out of the restaurant with a headache from the noise. Not the restaurant's fault at all but some acoustic treatments in the rooms (even if disguised to match the decorations) couldn't hurt in the room we were seated in.

I had the recent pleasure of going here for lunch with my closest friend as she wanted to surprise me. I loved the old world charm and the real woodwork in the building. We were given a tour by our delightful hostess. But the best was yet to come. The food is absolutely outstanding. I had the butternut squash ravioli with strips of chicken in a superb creamy sauce that was complimented with nuts and cranberries. Loved it. My friend had the lamb kabobs that were over a bed of rice. She said it was delicious. Our waitress was excellent! I would love to come back for a dinner some evening as we were given a tour of the outside patio too. Just beautiful for a evening outside with great food and reasonably priced drinks. * Note, The chef also does his own desserts, not bought from outside vendors. They all sounded delicious but we did pass.

Everything about our visit was perfection, from the moment Brittany answered the phone to take our reservation to the goodbyes as we walked out the door. Brittany greeted us with a smile and cheerful attitude. We were seated in a quiet, beautifully decorated room. Thomas waited on us with impeccable knowledge of the food and an attitude of combined old friend and perfect manners. We were treated like royalty. And our food was phenomenal. The baked brie appetizer was some of the best bites I have ever tasted. We ordered pasta Newburg (which offered a glutton free option and it was cooked to perfection) and chicken parmesan. Both portions were very large, cooked to perfection, beautiful plates of food. Thank you for making our day extra special.

Since you decided to delete my friend's review . I thought I would repose it because we were the couple with her Saturday night celebrating her birthday. Just want to warn you, the Corkscrew Saloon in Medina Ohio is not a place you want to go. I went there Saturday evening for my Birthday dinner with friends. Our experience and my meal in particular was less than perfect. I tried to contact the restaurant directly through their web site with no response. So I posted the following review on Yelp and on their Facebook page:

I had been to the Corkscrew Saloon several times and had wonderful meals, so when my husband asked where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner I picked the Corkscrew. We invited another couple to join us. All started out ok - until the food started to show up. My husband had asked for the soup, which we were told was Clam Chowder, it ended up being Potato Soup. Our waitress was no where to be found to tell her, so he just ate it. The main courses were brought out piecemeal - the couple with us got their meal, one of which was supposed to have a baked potato and did not. Then my husbands meal came out, by then it was discovered we did not receive any of the butter or sour cream for the baked potatoes. Then finally my meal came out. I had ordered the Salmon, on the rare side, it came out well done and dried. I was going to just eat it but my husband waved the waitress down and she offered to bring me a new one. Now that was just a complete mistake, the new Salmon looked like it had been slapped around the wall a few times and was completely raw except for a small sear on each side. The waitress asked if I wanted her to take it back to cook more, and I refused. I was not going to be the person to send my meal back twice - especially looking at what they did to it the first time. I just asked for a box so I could take it home and maybe cook it more myself. I was then horrified when she took my plate away to box it herself. I normally don't like to think the worst in people, but I just wasn't comfortable about that. Then the bill came and I would have expected at least a discount, most reputable restaurants would have not charged for the meal, but nothing. A manager didn't come over to talk to us, i had to pay $22 for a meal that I am not going to eat. My lovely birthday dinner was ruined. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I would not recommend it to anyone. I understand mistakes happen and sometimes the meal isn't cooked or ordered properly, but I do expect a restaurant to take care of the customer if they want them to return. I even attempted to contact the restaurant manager/owner privately to express my displeasure, and did not receive a response. To me this says they do not care about their customers.

After I sent this and a short Facebook Message - I received the following: Im sorry Wendy I never received a message from you! I would appreciate being able to rectify the situation. If you would be so kind to forward your message here or give me a call in the morning.

No name, phone number - anything. When I tried to respond to the Message - I discovered I have been blocked from their site - my review is gone. I can no longer post anything on their site, I cannot contact them at all.

I just wonder, how many others they have done this to. This must be why they have a 4.5 star rating with the only negative posts being from 2013.

Highly, highly disappointed and will continue to find review sites to post this to. The only reason I am posting this, is because they have blocked me from their site. And honestly, who knows how many people have experienced the same...

Let me tell you about the first and last time I visited the corkscrew saloon. My partner and I went here for Valentine's Day last year for an upscale dining experience. It is advertised as an upscale dining experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the most disappointing meal both my partner and I ever had. I have to say the server was brilliant and it's not her fault that the establishment she worked for was overpriced and underwhelming.

The calamari appetizer was ok - it's hard to mess up deep-fried squid. The drinks were nice - I had a whiskey cocktail and a beer. The service was wonderful. The server went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. Things took a turn when it came to the entres.

The entres were terrible. I ordered the Florida Grouper, advertised as dressed with corn and black bean salsa, served with chefs choice of potato and vegetables. I had cooked a similar sounding dish as a special when I worked as a chef.

My plate came to me with a sad looking, underseasoned piece of fish with limp, brown-green asparagus and potatoes au-gratin that could very well have come from a box. The "corn and black bean salsa" that topped the fish was literally frozen corn with one or two black beans here and there. No flavor, no spice, not fresh at all. Flavor was unpleasant to say the least, the asparagus was dead, and it was all coated in some kind of cheese sauce. It was heavy and tasted of salt.

My partner ordered some kind of chicken entre and hers was given the same treatment as mine. The chicken itself appeared to have been cooked in salt, pepper, and water. Again, it was potatoes au gratin and overcooked asparagus. Everything was covered in a salty, tasteless bechamel. Our romantic dinner conversation centered around how gross our food was and how incredulous we were that they were charging...
