What started as a fun experience with a friend ended on a sour note for me due to the cashier. First I must say, that while the close-out section had some decent deals, most of the store is overpriced. Regardless, I bought some "just because" gifts for several people in my family. While checking out, my friend went first, the cashier was friendly and offered to provide plastic votive holders in the bag since my friend bought many votives. She double bagged for her as well. I was purchasing larger candles in glass containers, as well as many other items. I asked for bags for each gift, with several items going into each bag. They have nice little brown handled bags with the name Root on them, in a variety of sizes. I needed 4 bags total, including 1 for the candles I was purchasing for myself. That was when the cashier asked the owner or manager "How many bags is she allowed? Isn't it 3?" Mind you, I was spending nearly $200.00, and now she was getting nit-picky about how many bags I was asking for. The manager said what I was asking for was fine, and once I was done with bagging my 3 gifts, she then put all my candles in a 4th single bag, making it very heavy (no double bagging for my larger glass jarred candles like my friend got for her much smaller purchase of votives). To put the cherry on top of this nasty sundae, she then asked to see my drivers license even though the credit card I used was approved, because of the amount I spent. As I dug around in my wallet for my drivers license she then said "never mind" and waved me away. Oh, so I guess it wasn't store policy to check my license? By the time I left, I had decided that I will not likely make the 45 minute drive to...
Read moreIf you need a candle. A real candle. A good smelling, made with local bees wax and a real quality candle that’s been around for the entire history of the town of Medina. This is the place. It’s a beautiful and historic building where they still manufacture the candles on-site. The showroom is full of assorted products, not just candles and is stunningly beautiful. A lot of care is put into the setup of Root Candles to make it very enjoyable for everyone. Even the old safe is utilized into a mini showroom. Seasonal setups offer unique scents based on the time of year. The fall, Halloween and even Christmas are clearly visible, or smellable I should say, at this time of year. I came in early September. The staff is really friendly and offered an explanation of the store for us because we were first timers. There’s a huge clearance section with fantastic deals. There is also a cafe with special hours, call for details. They also have a huge grocery section full of unique foods, honey, sauces and many many other really interesting products. I’m highly impressed and if you ever get to Medina OH, this place should definitely be on...
Read moreWe enjoyed this store very much. They offer beautiful American-made candles, decor, and gift items, and are a Vera Bradley retailer as well. The prices on some items seemed a bit steep if, I'm being honest. I do understand that quality comes at a price, but I got sticker shock from a few things I picked up. I had read about the store online and was expecting a small gift shop, and the factory seconds/out of season section that I had read about online, and was surprised at how large the retail area actually is. I learned later that there was an entire upstairs that I managed to miss, and we were shopping for over an hour. The factory seconds area was very small and had very little to offer. I'm not sure if this is due to being cleared out during the winter holidays, or the production problems that a lot of smaller businesses are facing right now, or if the dozen or so varieties in small quantities are what you'd typically find in that section. I did end up buying some candles, some votive holders, and a Vera Bradley item. They have a wide variety of candle scents. Something for everyone. I will...
