I’ve always loved Java Cabana with my entire heart. The atmosphere always made me feel comfortable and at home. With that being said, I’m extremely disappointed in my recent experience. I grew up near Memphis, and I’ve lived in Delaware for the past few years and I look forward to visiting Java Cabana every time I come back to visit. Last year I drove to Memphis to see that they were under renovation, only to return this year to find out there was a transfer of ownership. I always looked forward to enjoying the art on the walls. I loved writing in the community journals and reading blurbs of people who came before me. I loved looking through the thrift shop in the back. My favorite part of it all was the raspberry milkshake. But now the walls are barren, old journals are nowhere to be found, the thrift shop is gone and it just feels like the atmosphere that made Java Cabana what I loved so much was just stripped of personality and love. The most heartbreaking part of it all was traveling over 16 hours dreaming of a raspberry milkshake to find out that they no longer carry ice cream to make milkshakes. I felt obligated to then order a latte, and it was just awful. Again, I’ve always loved Java Cabana, but the new ownership stripped my favorite coffee shop of what made it great. Its disappointing and utterly...
Read moreThe place itself is cozy and ADORABLE. It reminded me of a local coffee house I frequented in high school which I absolutely loved. I wanted to love it at least as much. It was very quiet... most of the tables/ seats were taken... it felt a bit awkward. But we're optimists so we got in line for coffee. We placed our orders and then were left standing there. So we decided to find a place to sit. Accomplished that in a low couch where we remained until a large group got up and some chairs at a table were open. We relocated. A smaller table opened so we moved again. Our coffee came out! Hallelu! Mine was in a fairly thin paper cup but it was cute with cute sayings on it. My friend's was in a generic insulated cup. I couldn't hold my cup it was so hot. My friend requested a sleeve, they had none. So she asked for a second cup and was told they didn't think that would help but thankfully they gave us the cup. At that point, it just felt off. The vibes were not ideal. So we took our coffee to go. I will say, the coffee was DELICIOUS. I got the Lisa Marie and I recommend you try it too. So good! Hot cocoa with dark roast and raspberry just yum. It may have just been an off day there and normally it may be very warm and welcoming. I would say to still go and at least get the coffee to go if you don't feel the...
Read moreEdit: After receiving the comment below about change in management, I went to check it out and get some coffee. They were open this time and had multiple people inside hanging out, enjoying coffee and working. They definitely changed things around, and the space felt more like an actual coffee shop.
The coffee isn't remarkable or bad. Just average. I do wish they offered more size options tho.
The barista took time to write my name and coffee order on my cup when I was the only person being helped. There is no line. I thought that was kind of odd. Idk.
I really like supporting small businesses, but this place is just bad. Starting with their hours listed... they're not accurate. It's a crapshoot if they're going to be open or not, and dont bother going here for your morning coffee. It's never open in the morning.
If you can make it inside, it's cluttered, and maybe some people would describe this as "home-y," but I personally seek for things to be a bit more like an actual business.
The coffee isn't terrible, but it isn't great either. Dont come here if you're in any kind of...
