Murphy's is a great hole in the wall bar with cold beer, a great atmosphere and a perfect pool room in the back. Our band (Uptown Punk--check us out on Facebook) recently did a show there and Adam the sound guy was awesome--not only did he get the mix right with our sound, but he helped when our guitarist broke a string and changed out a mic stand that just wasn't working correctly. He was attentive without being overbearing. Murphy's was a great venue for our band to perform, and we got a lot of great feedback from the audience as well about how much fun the venue was.

Went here for a birthday party. It was definitely Memphis dive bar atmosphere. Band was great but the service was terrible! If your not a regular your gonna wait while they ask everyone else around you what they need before acknowledging your existence (if your lucky they do at all). I went and sat back at my table and had a man order for me since apparently that's all they were serving. I rarely leave bad reviews but Daaaamn! I think that bartender hated me before I even ordered a drink. Will never go back here and would definitely not recommend to tourist!

These people are very rude. Drove over from Arkansas & needed to park my large SUV with a large trailer connected there for 5 minutes if even that, so I could go right next door. A woman told me I couldn't park there when the ENTIRE parking lot was empty. I had to park at the Cash Saver & run across the busy highway instead. Some people just have no manners, or human decency. EDITED TO ADD: I would've gladly bought a soda to avoid running across 5 lanes of traffic in a busy town. I had just driven 2 hours out of 3 & 1/2 to pick up things from my old place to bring to my new place. Also, the woman who said I couldn't park there stood there talking about me with another woman who pulled up & pointing. Not very professional. I was nothing, but polite. Apparently they had a racist crowd the day my group went. We felt tolerated the whole time and forcely pushed out after one member of my group got into a minor disagreement with the bar tender. He literally tried dragging her out. Nobody should ever put their hands on anybody. They don't like you playing nothing but rock/country in there which is fine but dont have a jukebox for people to pay their money and pick songs if its a issue. Tried to calm the situation down and was yelled at like I started the problem. This place is NOT interaccial friendly stay away. You may be cool if you a Uncle TOM. Better bars...

I was in Memphis for one night, and I was staying at the Guesthouse at Graceland. I Google'd "where the locals drink" in Memphis and the highest rated pub was Murphy's. So, I trekked on over there, and I found the place was just my style. The barkeep was top notch, and welcoming, and the people were awesome and friendly. I stayed for 2 hours longer than I had planned, but it was well worth it. I met some fast friends, that I am sure to get in touch with each time I visit Memphis in the future. I recommend this place if you like a character filled dive, with open arms and laid back...
