Wow! My husband and I were looking for someplace different to eat and after searching a few steak places, we found this one. 30 minute drive from us but 100% worth it! Very cozy atmosphere, no TVs all over the place, no loud music, very calming and quiet! Great place if you're looking to actual interact with the people you're dining with! Very nice interior, very large inside with different wings/sections, lots of visuals here and there, hard wood beams too! Wait staff was very friendly and welcoming, and very calm. Nothing over the top obnoxious or "fake friendly" which was nice. We felt like valued guests. Our waiter was very attentive, thoughtful, and friendly! Now onto the food! We were given a plate of crackers and spreadable cheese, ice water to drink right away when we sat down. Most places nowadays you have to ask for water, not here! Thank you! The water didn't taste like bad tap water either, another trait of most places. Our drinks were awesome and came pretty quickly. I had an amaretto sour, my husband had a long island iced tea. Both drinks were well made, not watered down, the glasses were not filled with ice first. They had ice but just enough to keep them cool. Our meal came with salads and our waiter asked if I wanted onions or not. WOW! No one ever asks me that! I hate onions so this pleased me a ton! I didn't have to feel bad saying no. I said no onions, tomatoes, or peppers please, I didn't know what they put on their salads, but I said I loved cucumbers. When our salads arrived they were HUGE! My salad had extra cucumbers and they were the biggest cucumbers I've ever seen! Bit fat and juicy! I was very pleased! We were also given a choice of bread with the meal. The choices were cinnamon rolls, onion bread, and blueberry corn bread omg! I had the blueberry corn bread, my husband had the cinnamon rolls. I want their recipe hahahaha so delicious! Our meals came perfectly timed. We were already getting pretty full haha. We both had a steak/sea food combo plate. I had a Filet Mignon with lazy lobster, he had prime with scallops. Our veggie side proportions were very large as well! 1/2 corn on the cob and a baked potato that I was only able to eat 1/4 of. I love taking left overs home! My husband also had 1/2 corn on the cob and a very large portion of mashed potatoes. The flavors were very good. Needless to say... we both had have our meals boxed up for later! Desert! They bring you out a tray as a visual, so fancy, such service! The deserts that aren't dry like cakes and cheese cakes they just mention like strawberry shortcake etc... I chose the red velvet cheese cake and my husband had some amazing chocolate fudge cheesecake lava cake. Both were served with 2 small scoops of french vanilla ice cream, drizzles of chocolate and white chocolate and 2 stacks of whipped cream, super pretty! I ended up also taking half my desert home but my husband finished his. This place is so wonderful and amazing! Worth the drive and the price! When we first arrived the prices looked high but when we found all that was included it made it all well worth it! We were treated very well, the quality of the food was cooked to perfection, the food tasted great with large portions, great drinks, etc... Check them out! They are so much better than any chain restaurant! The atmosphere, service, and food felt like places did when I was a kid. I wouldn't change a thing about this place! If they were an hour away it would still be...
Read moreLet's start with the kindness and comfort we experienced at this fine restaurant. The atmosphere is so amazing, and old school New England. It brings me back to a different time (in a positive way). A beautiful functional Fireplace adorns one section of the dining areas if you like as well. Plenty of items to catch your eyes and spark some table talk!
Now we will discuss the service. The hostess and everyone greeted us each time with a smile and welcoming tones. The wait staff (Mark and Lauren) were undoubtedly some of the best staff I have met in this state. That's saying something big, we eat out several times a week. This is a new favorite for me and my guests. Everything was timely, cooked and served at proper temperatures, and well presented. A++
Now the good stuff... the food. The bread basket, crackers and cheese came first! Didn't last long! Then, I had the steamers, I highly recommend them. 👌 (had them all 3 trips. That's right 3!) Plus the filet mignon was cooked to perfection, i enjoyed a side of mixed veggies with a baked potato. Wonderful flavors and quality. My 3guests had fish and chips, clam chowder, and a steakhouse burger with fries. The fish and chips were amazing (haddock) great quality and flavor. The clam chowder my guest claimed was the best she had wiith just a hint of bacon. The burger was cooked to perfection. And served on a beautiful Brioche with fries. You should also make sure you try the dressing (creamy garlic is no joke TY Lauren!) I still love the house italian personally (less sweet), it also is available for take home!
Also one of my guests had a birthday and they made sure to make it special in so many ways. Give them 24 hours they'll have a cake ready for you!!! The facilties are wheelchair accessible and the staff is helpful. They catered to my gluten free needs as well.
In closing: Do yourself a favor, treat yourself nice and go see them. Order without fear and know you will treated like family here. This is a family owned and operated restaurant and it shows they care. Ty Jim for the kindness love and time your have put into your business. It shows. Ty for the dressing I have enjoyed it tremendously. Tell them "Artist" sent you and share a smile and some great dining with some special people, even if you dine alone. I know because I did it my first time there. :) but I just couldn't keep it to myself. :) I will be...
Read moreHad not been here in a while. It has changed, and personally speaking, not for the best. When my family and I arrived, a little old lady simply inquired about reservations and general times the restaurant was more busy than not. Young hostess snarkely replied "I can't tell you that, We are not here to tell you when it's busy, there is no way of knowing." Yes, dear, there is. It's called paying attention to your surroundings. We all felt sorry for that little old lady. She was simply inquiring and not being rude.
The food. Well, they used to provide an array of crackers along with the cheese spread. Now, you literally receive two Ritz crackers on a plate with some cheese spread in a cup. To the owner, if you are concerned about cutting costs, get rid of the Ritz cracker packs altogether. It is not worth the trouble or plate.
Their cinnamon rolls used to be excellent. Maybe we were at the restaurant on an off day, but they were the most sorry looking cinnamon rolls I have every seen; a big hole in the middle with cinnamon stuffed in the middle. Too doughy.
Prices were too high. My husband ordered a hamburger. God help you if you wanted extras like cheese or onions. Caramelized onions were 4 bucks extra. With all due respect, I will donate an onion to the kitchen if everybody is that hardup. Though the hamburger was edible, it was nothing to make you want to go back. My husband's french fries were worse. They looked like remnants from an Ore-Ida bag; pieces that were sparse and overly cooked. 21 bucks.
My chicken Alfredo was also disappointing. 28 bucks for overcooked pasta and a few pieces of chicken added. Sadly, the sauce was overly thick, bland, and cold in some spots, while warm in others. A true disappointment
Waitress was lovely. She was the highlight of the evening. Poor girl was working on her birthday. However, even though she was polite and professional, she could not make up for all that was not so great. Thank God we had a gift certificate.
The price for a hamburger, spaghetti, and chicken Alfredo was 90 plus. Not worth it. Oh. And wait till you see how the town of Mendon itemized their tax structure....insane.
Sadly, this was our final time. We wish the owner well, but NE Steak and Seafood is not the caliber...
