Larry the freeloader found out I had a gallon of squid ink from the last time I went after Humboldt Squid, and said if I gave it to him he'd spot for lunch at Eric's Gourmet Delicatessen! Well...I figured it's a fair enough deal, even though it'll cost me about 80 dollars for the fuel to get to Menlo Park and back to Napa, but what sealed the deal was Larry had a side bet with Platypus Pete that he could get a gallon of Squid ink, and if he did...Platypus Pete would pour it on his head or lose a 500 dollar bet! Well, I didn't stick around for the outcome, but I had a couple of Amazing sandwiches! ☆☆☆☆☆

Been going there for 30 years. Never had a problem. Six months ago they botched my sandwich horribly. But I gave them another chance today. There was hardly any meat on my sandwich. Two skinny slices of meat. Embarrassing. Then I asked for just a little bit of mustard. And they slather it all across, way too much. When I spoke to the manager he basically did not care, would hardly speak to me, and said that I could do whatever I want. I don't know what happened to this place, but it's been blacklisted. I'd rather go to Subway. I'll never go to Eric's again.

3.5/10 Got the turkey sandwich with bacon. Overpriced. No flavor. Nothing "gourmet" about it. Waited about 15 minutes on a slow morning. You're better off going to Safeway next door and getting a premade sandwich for less money and better taste. Not worth it at all. Plus no one was working the register as we waited fpr our sandwiches and when we were given our sandwiches we were rudly told "you haven't paid yet I can't give this to you." Well no duh, we've been standing here for 15 minutes with no one helping us.

Very good customer service. In my new position I am exploring delis near my work for the purpose of catering meetings and I received timely and very good customer service from, who I later found out, was the owner. Ordered the New York steak sandwich. I wanted the rib eye but unfortunately they didn't have that available at the time. The sandwich was tasty but then I am a huge fan of caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms, which it had. Their potato salad was pretty decent but I wasn't crazy about some of the very large pieces of potato. What I did like was that it had mustard, which I find balances out the fatty mayo. I also had the cucumber salad. Nice flavorful tangy salad but again, not a fan of the lack of uniformity size of the ingredients. Made it hard to get a bite that had a little of everything...

Found 3 nails (luckily human, not metal) in the chicken barley soup that I had bought for lunch. Pretty appalling behavior from the lady whom I spoke with on the phone to complain that their soup had nails in it

kept insisting that I was wrong and they weren't nails. Well ma'am, someone who is 30+ years old knows what a human nail looks like! when I mentioned that I'll be posting this online, she asked me what I wanted. Just to say it again ma'am if you are reading - I don't want other customers to encounter a health hazard when they are having a simple lunch

And to the lady that I spoke to on the phone - sorry, I had high hopes in expecting that your dictionary had the word "sorry"

On a positive note, the nails were relatively clean - not a lot of...

Very, very expensive for a veggie sandwich. $7.95 for minimal toppings: 1 leaf of lettuce, 1 slice of pickle and 4 rings of onion. The thin spread of mayo and mustard didn't help the dry bread very much. .50 cents extra for 4 slices of cucumber and $1.50 for a few artichoke hearts. Ridiculous. Triple or quadruple the veggies and have fresh bread and the price would be more understandable. It felt like their protocol is to give the minimum. The gal who helped me was very nice, the manager or owner seemed annoyed I was there.. he made the sandwich. Given the prices I would think the interior would be much more...
