We had a phenomenal lunch here today! The food was excellent and service was exceptional. The lovely waiter brought yummy chips and salsa to the table, and I ordered extra guac which was nicely seasoned. For mains we had a pastor burrito and enchiladas suizas - both came with rice and refried beans, and both were absolutely delicious! Portions were so generous we had to take half home for later! We will absolutely be back, what a great find.

What a hidden gem! Solid American-Mexican food served in a homey setting that slightly feels like a 70s diner. Really friendly service and the portions are generous! I loved the grilled sea bass plate and the taco salad, which was lightly dressed even without me having to ask! There were plenty of folks there but we were seated right away at 12:30pm on a Friday. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available!

From the complimentary chips and salsa to the delicious crab enchilada, El Cerrito never skipped a beat, the portions were generous and the food cooked to perfection. Service remained quick and friendly for the duration of our stay. Although, compared to the competition the prices seemed a little steep, ranging from $15-$20 per main dish, personally I'd say it was still worth it though.

Food: Mediocre & over-portioned. They only have beer and wine, so don't expect tequila or tequila-based drinks.

Service: Warm, friendly, kind, helpful.

Atmosphere: We sat in the booths in along the back wall. The front door was was closed, but somehow there were constant drafts of very cold outside air coming in (maybe from the kitchen?) so it was fairly chilly inside. So not only was it cold, but we kept getting strong whiffs of dank air, or fake-chemical-smelling air freshener coming from the bathrooms. They have a sign to keep the door to the bathrooms shut, but, anytime they were opened - there was an overpoweringly strong oscillation between a sort of dankness and air freshener that it impacted the taste of the food as well as any...

I don't want to give a low rating because I know times are tough, but the food here is terrrrrrrible!

We ordered at steak burrito and a chicken quesadilla.

The burrito was overly filled with undercooked pinto beans and hard rice. There was some little meat pieces if you look for them and a few strands of lettuce. The burrito was dry and crunchy, not good and would never recommend to even my enemy.

The chicken quesadilla was cooked in a stenchy old oil and the whole togo box was drenched in the orange oil. Got all over the bag and table, nasty. Old oil is smelly, which this was.

I'd never visit this restaurant and would never recommend to anyone. I'm not sure why they have so many good reviews... I would give 1-star if I could without...

Service was, very good. For that alone, I'd give 5 stars. Unfortunately, cannot say the same about their food. Salsa was just ketchup with some spices. Had the steak a la tampiqueña with a side a shrimp. The meat cut was paper thin, smothered in a creamy orange sauce and full of fat. There were 3 shrimps. The beans, seemed like they had just opened a can of beans and portioned some unto the plate. No flavor. Had the house sangria and even that, they couldn't get right. Wine was not fresh and started to taste a bit rancid. Place has a lot of potential but, they need to review ingredients and product preparation, as well as, recipes that more closely resemble...
