Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Merced

My recent visit to a restaurant called Applebee's left me with quite an unpleasant impression. It's unfortunate that I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this establishment based on my experience.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by a rather unpleasant odor that permeated the air. This initial olfactory assault was quite off-putting and did not set a pleasant tone for the rest of the dining experience.

As we were seated, it quickly became apparent that the table we were given had a significant wobble, making it difficult to enjoy our meal without constantly adjusting our plates and drinks to prevent spills. The seating was also uncomfortable, as the chairs seemed to be sunken in, causing discomfort throughout the meal.

Unfortunately, the issues did not end there. The service, provided by our waitress, left much to be desired. She appeared rushed and impatient throughout our entire meal, which made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Additionally, the restaurant's policy regarding the all-you-can-eat boneless wings was disappointing, as they were quite stingy with refills, detracting from the promised unlimited experience.

The most crucial aspect of any dining experience is, of course, the food, and regrettably, this restaurant fell short in that department as well. The food was served lukewarm, which is never ideal when it comes to enjoying a meal. The wings, which should have been the highlight, were a major letdown. They lacked flavor and tasted rather unappetizing. The chicken itself was not very tasty, and it felt like there was more bread and sauce than actual chicken, which was quite disappointing given the all-you-can-eat deal.

In conclusion, my visit to Applebee's was a regrettable experience marred by unpleasant odors, wobbly tables, uncomfortable seating, subpar service, and disappointing food quality. It is with a heavy heart that I must advise potential diners to think twice before choosing this restaurant for their dining experience. Went here for a last minute dinner for my sisters birthday, we put our names on the wait list and self seated at the bar. They told us they would come and get us when our booth was ready and they never did. We were then told by the bartender that the hostess crossed our names off of the list. Our experience at the bar was great, our drinks were good and our appetizers were good, service was prompt. After asking about the booth, we were then seated at a booth by a window and it was absolutely freezing. I got another beer and it was flat, and the server said she could grab me a soda or a water. Why would I want a soda or a water if I’ve been drinking beer? Doesn’t make sense to me but ok. Move onto the food. My food was ok. I got it served on a skillet so it was still hot but it usually comes with lots of onions and mushrooms and it had maybe one or two. Whatever. It was also missing shrimp, which I ordered. My sisters food was stone cold, and was not what she ordered. They made her 4 plates in total trying to correct the mistake and it was wrong every time. Her mac n cheese was straight water under the penne pasta it was served with. The manager even agreed it didn’t look right but STILL served it to her every time he brought it out. I finished my food and my sister STILL didn’t have dinner. The table next to us ordered the same thing she had and their plates look GREAT. How disappointing. We moved back to the bar and had a couple more drinks and left. I have NEVER been so disappointed in my experience here. Ordered 8 lunches for work for pickup for a co-workers birthday. I know they're slow, so i ordered it for 11:30, even though I knew I wouldn't be there until 11:40ish (so it'd be ready). I ordered this at 10am. I got there at 11:40 and a girl walked out. Asked me if I'd paid yet and said no. I gave her my credit card and it was the last I saw her.

I sat in my car for 10 minutes before going in the side entrance looking for my card and my food. When I walked in a different girl was at the register and gave me a snide "Can I help you with something?" I brought her up to speed and she said "she's probably busy with other orders..." There were no other cars in the to-go spots.

Then a totally different lady walks up with my card and the receipt to sign and says the fries will be done in 30seconds. So, she basically told me that even tho I ordered it to be picked up at 11:30, at 11:50 my order still wasn't ready. A minute later she walked out with all my food. I thanked her and left.

On my way back to work, I called and spoke to a manager to let them know my experience. The guy sounded half asleep or maybe he just didn't care. At the end of the phone call I could hear the original girl in the background saying "What'd he say?! What'd he say?!" Super unprofessional.

After all that, the food left something to be desired. For the price, it was definitely not worth it. For example, the birthday girl ordered bourbon chicken & shrimp and in her container was a chicken breast and like 5 shrimp....
