Very disappointing. My husband and I ordered dinner to dine in. I ordered the Happy Family and he ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. It came with egg drop soup and I had wanted won ton soup and they said it was $2 extra which we said was ok. The soup came and the bowl was so tiny that I couldn't see why they charged $2 extra for it. The won ton soup was nothing but over salted chicken broth with a very small wonton and a few small bok choy leaves. My husband's egg drop soup was ok, but also very over salted.
Our dinner came out quickly. My Happy Family dinner, was anything but happy. It had shrimp, some sliced beef and chicken and some other unidentifiable long, rubbery substance in it that neither of us could identify. It seemed like it was pre-cooked and they just heated it up in the microwave because it got cold very quickly. It was also very salty and other then that didn't have much taste. My husband's Kung Pao Chicken was good, although you could taste the MSG in it and it was also very greasy. It wasn't spicy at all though. My husband loves spicy food so he was disappointed. I ended up eating some of his because my dish was so bad, but I ate little of his.
As far as decor, this place has no atmosphere. It's a square room with some standard tables and booths, no decor at all. They had the tv on the football game and most of the people at the register were watching it as if they could care less about the customers.
I wouldn't recommend Chen's at all. We won't be going back. Very...
Read moreNot super impressed...I love Chinese food - even mediocre Chinese food - but I was a little disheartened with my order from here. I got the chicken and broccoli and an order of crab puffs.
The crab puffs were good, I would definitely order them again. However, the chicken and broccoli, my go-to dish at any Chinese take out restaurant, was inedible. The portion size was great, but I got it home and opened it up and it REEKED - I mean like my whole apartmentment smelled after 10 minutes. The chicken was incredibly gamey and smelled foul. The broccoli was very tough and stringy. I've never had any Chinese food come out like that. I was so disappointed, and I ended up having to throw the entire thing away because neither myself or my husband could eat it, and he eats a lot of questionable things. I have NEVER thrown out Chinese food, so I was annoyed.
I definitely won't order the chicken and broccoli again, although I'd be willing to try something else on the menu. I am not very inclined to return, though, until I try some other Chinese restaurants in...
Read moreI am out of my current neighborhood and had a craving for some good Egg Fu Young. Unfortunately, I still am left with that craving after having Chens' offering.
Starting with the Egg Flower Soup, we found that there was so much cornstarch in it, that it was closer to gelatin than liquid, and was noticeably bland. Egg rolls tasted good, and had a good cook on them. Sweet and sour shrimp was a mixed bag. The sauce is good, and I love having bell pepper and pineapple in my sweet and sour, but the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery.
As for the Egg Fo Young, it was... interesting. The actual Egg Fu Young, itself, tasted really good. But, for a Pork Egg Fu Young, I expected the pork to be inside of it. The pork was mixed in with a large amount of vegetables, mostly peas, and just put on top of the eggs. The brown sauce was really, really thin and watery.
I will likely give them a try again, just to ensure that I did not catch an off night. The Egg Flower Soup and Sweet and Sour Shrimp, though, are likely things that I would...
