We ordered at this bakery for a 17th birthday, and my Goddess did they deliver! Everything from the atmosphere of the place to the aesthetic and food was perfect.
I ordered an 8-inch custom heart-shaped lemon cake with strawberry filling and frosting, all with a very particular design and style and it came out even BETTER than the photos. All night, people could not stop taking pictures of it.
Once we had picked up the cake, driving over seventy miles for it, we knew we'd come back next year and any other time my family and I are in the Mesa area.
Upon arrival to Elysian Fields, we were offered a shortcake cookie, one for each of my family. My parents got coconut shortbread, while I got rose. Both flavors were amazing. I know some people who are not a fan of florals might complain the shortbread tastes "perfume-y/soap-y", but personally, I have always liked florals and adored it! There were plenty of other trinkets on sale, and the candles especially caught our eye. We plan to get one once winter comes in AZ, so we can properly appreciate them. When the lovely person in the glasses came out from the back with the cake, everyone was stunned. We were not expecting it to be that big or for it to be exactly like the inspo picture, if not better, down to even the font. It was perfect. We also got a croissant, pastry, peanut butter cookie, and a caramel- the last one being free of charge (thank you!). All were amazing and delicious.
As for the cake, it was a little dry. HOWEVER, it had been left in the fridge for 3 days before it was cut into, so it's totally understandable it would be like this. I also do wish it had a little more filling and less frosting, but then again, it could've easily been my fault for not specifying better in the order form I filled out; and in regards to the frosting, I do not blame the people here for such a large amount of frosting! As a fellow baker, I know it needs that quantity to look pretty and hold the cake's shape. So, I totally get it and the cake was tasty either way, especially with a cup of coffee.
In conclusion, this place is WORTH it. I will be coming back here for any event needs and will be recommending this place to all friends and family. It's fab and whimsical and the energy in the shop is just so positive and amazing. You can just tell everyone working there has a passion for what they do. Thank you Elysian Fields for making this...
Read moreI am totally disappointed (insert sad face). I was so excited when I heard this store reopened. I was expecting the same goodness and deliciousness as Cups and Cakes. The new store, Elysian Fields, did not meet my expectations. Nor, did they meet the expectations of my mother and husband. We were loyal repeat customers of Cups and Cakes. So when Elysian Fields took its place we were excited to sink our teeth into a moist and flavorful cupcake. When we walked inside there were only like 3, maybe 4, flavors of cupcakes to choose from and not many of each. My mother noticed the cupcakes were smaller than the ones previously offered by Cups and Cakes. I, too, noticed the difference. However, the biggest difference is the texture. They were not moist and they were slightly crumbly and dry. My husband can usually polish off 6 cupcakes in a few days. He only had one. We ended up pitching the rest, along with the rum cakes we had purchased. It was a total waste of money. Elysian Fields charges $4 per cupcake. Cups and Cakes had charged $3 per cupcake. When we were inside a staff member offered us a small shortbread to sample. I chose the Cherry Blossom. Thinking I am sinking my teeth into a shortbread cookie similar to a Walker's I was horrified when the taste of soap came to my palate. Then I thought it tasted more like the smell of my great grandmother's cheap dime store perfume. Either way, it was rancid. I could not wait to get back to the car and drink some water. That taste lingered in my mouth for at least 5 minutes. It was horrible. Who in their right mind would enjoy a shortbread that tastes like scented soap/perfume? The lady inside over emphasized that they are known for their shortbread and it was the store specialty. Yikes! I hope they reevaluate their serviceable obtainable market for scented shortbreads. Otherwise, it will be a vacant space again. This store would be better suited if it was in Old Town Scottsdale or Sedona. Sorry Elysian Fields, 2 thumbs down on your cupcakes, rum cakes, and shortbread. Don't be fooled by the 4.7 stars. Those stars were earned by Cups and Cakes. Elysian Fields should have created their own Google page when they opened for business and not ride on the coat tails of Cups and...

Long version: OMG, the shortbread cookies are the bomb. A friend recommended Elysian Fields because she knows I am a sucker for baked goods and sweets. I live in the west valley, however, so chances of me visiting are slim. It just so happens I was in the area this particular Saturday (hiking) and remembered to stop in. What a lovely little place.
It is situated in a strip mall, meaning parking will never be a problem. They have a few tables sitting out on their patio, with a couple menus out there, too. The menus looked a little overwhelming and I was very hungry so I just walked in. Then became overwhelmed at the decisions I would have to make about what goodies to buy. :-) The struggle is real. Ha!
The young lady behind the counter was extremely bubbly and polite, taking the time to explain their flavors, their garden, and the perfumes they sell. The decor was well put together and made me reminisce about my trip to Paris years ago. She mentioned they have some drinks to offer, too, but my eyes were glazed over with the food choices.
This visit proved I should never visit a bakery hungry. I purchased the almond croissant w/ marzipan, tiramisu bar, pecan pie Danish, butter bundt cake, and seven small shortbread cookies (all different flavors).
The croissant was flaky and airy inside w/ just the right amount of marzipan, the orchid shortbread cookie was delicious and it was not as dry as some shortbread cookies are. The tiramisu bar was huge and even being cut into quarters, it was almost too sweet for me.
I may have to start hiking more in the east valley, just so I have an excuse to stop into Elysian. They have a reward point system through Cash App, which is a bonus. If you have not tried Elysian, you are...
