Terrible experience, if it wasn't for our server, Cameron, .. I'd have nothing nice to say at all. Let's start with painting the scenario. A large party that my spouse and I know was there, we showed up but couldn't be added to their tables. We ended up getting a total different server and sitting at a completely different table, we were in close proximity but we're obviously not apart of the party. The food was subpar but hey... we just dealt with it and accepted that we probably wouldn't go back. Once received our check, we noticed a "service charge"
On the receipt it stated that parties larger than 5 would automatically be charged 20% gratuity. I found it strange because we were only a party of two. We received our food before the large party... different server.. different section... though we knew the other party.. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY NOT APART OF THEIR PARTY.... Ok.. so the tip wasn't the issue, it was the principal. I ask the server to explain... she seemed a bit oblivious and just mentioned that she was doing "what she was told"
So I ask her for her manager so he could help me understand.
Jeff comes over... totally condescending and rude. He basically said he thought we were with the large party but couldn't explain how this is fair being that we could t even be sat with them.,. Let alone with a different server, different section. I at this point didn't want to cause a scene, so I asked if he could get another manager. Do you know we sat there and he never came back to even check in? As mentioned, we had no issue tipping 20%. Cameron was great and super professional and attentive, so it was the principal that they felt it was okay to just tag the charge on when we were a party of two. We paid the bill, made sure to let the server know we really appreciate her. Jeff was still no where to be found. On the way out, we stopped to chat with David and explain everything, he said he understands and apologized for the whole thing. But at this point, it was more so about the unprofessionalism and condescending attitude JEFF decided to display this evening, I'm totally disgusted. I promise you this place will never be...
Read moreAs a lifelong customer of Deanies I’m disappointed to say my family and I will never be returning. We’ve supported and been coming to here for 20+ years and this was the worse experience we’ve ever had. We had family even visit and come in town to visit here for a birthday we celebrated so we were a fairly large party taking up 2 long tables. The way not only did the manager call us liars which Is on video but the waitress got loud, yelled and caught an attitude with my aunt and cousin is beyond me. This whole situation stemmed from me letting the waitress know that I was charged for a half seafood platter that was never received. As stated before we were a large party with only 1 waitress but she received some help in bringing out food from runners and other employees. 2 people in our party came in about 30 minutes after everyone else’s order was placed and received. Our food was constantly coming out and we again had a party of about 20 people so it took a minute for everyone to receive their food. I noticed my family member who came late received their full platter and I still never received my half platter so I mentioned it to the runner who brought his out since my waitress wasn’t near. The runner said he will let them know (which never happened). My boyfriend and I sat at the table and on the end with the kids so that they had an adult there at the table. Our waitress never came to our table but my family told me they came to hers on the opposite side so I never got the chance to let her know about my food until the bill since I didn’t see her. After mentioning that I didn’t get mine I saw it was still on the receipt. From then on management and our waitress had an attitude and we’re being rude when we asked to take it off since we never got it and I brought it to their attention before Checks came out. They made us still pay for the $40 platter that was never received on top of terrible service. We weren’t welcomed at all and will never be returning. I’m disappointed in...
Read more05DEC21 ~ I have enjoyed Deanie's Seafood for decades! Food, service, and atmosphere were their usual outstanding! Thank you! I had the grilled redfish & my wife had the fried shrimp. She got the better of the two but the redfish was good. The small boiled potatoes with butter was an excellent starter. Our waitress, I believe her name was 'Gena', was nothing short of outstanding. I do not now recall her name for sure but the receipt shows 'Angela'. She was genuinely friendly, personable, efficient, and professional. She came around at all the right times, not too little & not too much. The family friendly atmosphere was perfect for us. Enjoy this family owned & locally owned restaurant fare!

Deanie's is NOT wheelchair accessible. The two inch step at the entrance is not even noticeable to those not limited to a wheelchair, but it is Mount Everest to those in a wheelchair. My wife's power chair could not climb the entrance step. She was terribly embarrassed about all the attention she received from 'well intentioned' bystanders about her not being able to enter the restaurant. I went inside to cancel our reservation and tell the man taking the reservations about not being able to enter in a wheel chair. He never said a word, just uncaringly scratched our name off of the wait list. We went around the corner to R & O's and did have a five star meal.

I have been eating Deanie's Seafood at the Bucktown location since 1979 and have NEVER been disappointed! They don't serve the blackened red-fish anymore but the grilled red-fish is also great. My favorite is the large seafood platter, large enough for four, with fried 'a little bit of everything', soft-shelled crab, fish, shrimp, oysters, and crab balls. Good family atmosphere. Non-pretentious, friendly waitresses, large portions, in the heart of Bucktown...
