Yesterday a friend and I made reservations at 3pm to dine here. My friend drove all the way from Denville. We were so excited because we love Greek food and the reviews were great. When we arrived the host wasn't very welcoming just asked for my name and sat us down in the back corner of the restaurant. It's important to note that the majority of the restaurant was very empty. After about ten minutes an Asian family comes into the restaurant and the host sits them right next to us. About 2 min later the host comes to OUR table and asked us if we wanted to move because the Asian family did not want to sit next to us. We told her that we were ok sitting where we were and we did not want to move because we were here first. We asked her why she was asking us to move when we were here first? She didn't give an explanation and just said," ok, you don't have to move if you don't want to" and walked off. We decided to cancel our food order and leave the restaurant. What she did was rude and disrespectful. The fact that she felt so comfortable honoring their request and decided to prioritize them over us spoke volumes. Especially, since we were there 10 min before they even arrived. I had never experience anything like that, EVER. Needless to say we will never go back and will not recommend. However, I will say that our waiter was wonderful. She was very sweet and kind to us and treated us with respect. We ended up going around the corner to MexiMoto a stunning restaurant, it was a packed house. We were welcomed, food was delicious but most of all we were treated with respect. It was very diverse and had good vibes there. Everyone was having a good time and no one seemed to care who they were sitting next to.
Response to owner: I appreciate your response. But this was not a misunderstanding at all. The kids were not being loud. They hadn't even taken off their coats. The moment the family sat down the father immediately got up and requested for US to be moved. And your hostess never mentioned anything about the kids because this is simply not true. If she wanted to honor his request, she could have done so discreetly. She should have moved his family to the other side of the restaurant since it was empty. She should not have asked the customers that were seated 10 min prior to that family's arrival, who had already had water brought to the table, who had already ordered their food to move...simply because some entitled customers did not want to sit next to others. However, I appreciate your apology. I hope in the future things will be handled differently so that all of your customers feel welcomed, so that no other customers have to experience...
Read moreWe travelled over an hour every two months to one of the local business in Metuchen and decided to try this restaurant because it was highly recommended. We were starving!!! We had a server that was just ok and her service was just average. It was around 4:30 pm when we were seated no one was sitting outside we were the first ones so it wasn't crowded. The server asked us if she could get us something to drink. We ordered soda and water. She brought out a bottle of water and didn't even pour the first glass for us. Then she says do you know what you would like to order? She never asked us if this was our first visit so didn't suggest anything off of the menu. We finally knew what we wanted and ordered. All she did was take our order, didn't suggest a side salad or even dessert, coffee or appetizer, just what you want she will take the order. We noticed other customers that came in after us all had bread. The couple who sat next to us when we were eating our meals, their server had A+ service. We heard him explain items on the menu, gave them bread and poured their water! We were never offered any bread and saw others that came after us with bread on the table. We ordered fried calamari which was the only thing that was good. The side sauces were delicious. My mother ordered the salmon and I ordered the Kotopoulo. I think this is the second time ever that I went to a restaurant and we didn't finish our meal. My mom said her food was bland and she also didn't finish her food. The food was just average. We eat regularly in center city Philadelphia and spend the same average for meals $74 or more. Would never go back here again. Would have given it a one star but since the calamari was great I rated 2 star. We tipped 15% and sadly if the service was better she would have received 25% because we are great tippers. If you want dessert go to What's the Scoop a several steps away (on the same block). Best ice cream and the workers...
Read moreWe come here for quick bites, date nights and family reunion. Good food, (extremely) reasonable price and super friendly service. Make sure you come here regularly for their specials. Chef Teddy Kappas is very creative and will rotate the menu every month or so based on the fresh ingredients they get. I had my wedding reception here. With a relatively short notice, Chef Kappas was able to reserve the place for us and presented such a fabulous buffet (with soft drinks, appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert) for 52 adults plus 2 kids and 4 1-year-old babies. All the waiters and waitresses were so delightful, nice and quick! They literally took good care of my every single guest. Everybody had such a good time - I know this for sure because some of my guests who also went to other (dinner) parties on the same day texted me just to tell me that our food was the BEST. As newly wedded couples who had 0 experience of hosting any big parties, we really appreciate what chef Kappas did for us and our family. A big surprise came towards the end: my husband’s dad was Greek who passed away when my husband was 2 years old. To let us experience some Greek tradition and culture and have a “taste” of Greek wedding, chef Kappas hand-made "koufeta" as dessert for our guests. I was truly touched. The Greek on Main is much much much more than just a Greek restaurant. If you happen to be in our neighborhood, do not miss the chance to enjoy a meal with love and care at this lovely...
