Birthday’s are a very special day, and being a Christmas Eve baby even more so. So when I was deciding what and where to celebrate my birthday, there was only one place that came to mind, my neighbor Gastrobar, Sins. Why! Because when I walk into Sins it gives me the same feeling of when I walk into Disney. You come to a place that is decorated with so much joy, colors, tastefully done but for the holidays they went all out. I walk in there and I am transpose into a beautiful Wonderland. Then you move to the next phase of this amazing experience, signature cocktails, that each one brings its own story. My favorite is Paloma, which is a cocktail made with Tequila and the Lychee martini. My wife doesn’t drink, and she has 3 in one night 😜. Finally the culmination of a Foodie’s dreamland, the Sins menu, you just can’t decide what to order. I order based on my desire for that night, because whatever I order I know it’s going to please my tastebuds beyond any expectation. Love the Rissotto, the Short Rib, the Steak, any of the appetizers, specially the Salmon Tartar. Seal the night by going on a Friday night and allow yourself to be entertain by beautiful music, which starts around 8pm. Good luck getting a table so make reservations. Back to my birthday celebration. It was last Sunday, which I went to Brunch, but not just any Brunch but their special one a month Drag Brunch. This one on Sunday was a Holiday special. I will only say that I am in my 50’s, I am a Foodie, and I have gone to many Drag shows, Sins Drag show was uniquely Amazing. The performers, the costumes, the performances, the awesome music from DJ Adora, and Ivón in the Miami area, and the gorgeous MC, Poison Ivy, just filled my bday celebration to the fullest.
I will end by saying that I am a Miami Shores resident of over 20 years, I dreamed of the day that we would have restaurants, bars to go to, but having Sins Gastrobar surpasses any dream I could have ever had for a neighborhood bar. I know none of this could happen without the amazing Chef Adriana that just creates a menu that changes constantly so that we are always excited to come out for dinner, and have a new experience every time. Her brother Carlos, the visionary of the creations that we get to enjoy in this beautiful place. Our beautiful, fun and friendly Marianna, thru her service she makes our dining experience flawless. Last but not least our very own Sofia, who just put so much detail and enthusiasm to make sure that I had a great bday celebration. We were 10 of us, from vegetarians to carnivorous. From wino’s to cocktail drinkers. We all left there like we had just been to the most Magical event and place ever, and I am so lucky to call it home, my neighborhood favorite place away from home. Thank you Sins Gastrobar for making my bday brunch unforgettable, but most of all to know that with every visit to your place, I can’t count on a great experience, it’s one great...
Read moreWaiter acted like they were doing us a favor. Not fast by any stretch and to say they were unattentive is an understatement as only the barest number of table appearances were made, I'd call the attitude arrogant apathy. Food was OK just ho-hum. We had a couple of margarita cocktails super slow to arrive, we split a dirty artichoke starter and caprese salad (again slow to arrive) but then just as we had our first bite of the appetizer and salad here comes a couple of burgers which were our main course entree. Hate it when that happens - like you're all of a sudden being rushed out of there. After dinner and not seeing my server I went to the bar to buy a beer but the bartender acted like they were really in the weeds when all they were doing was chating to staff and flirting with the customers sitting there. I gave up on the beer as my existence was never acknowledged. Our meal cost slightly under $120 but when the bill came it included a gratuity. Don't like a gratuity forced down my throat so now we're talking $140 (and 20% for lousy service doesn't seem quite fair). To say, not great value, puts it mildly. However I will say the place had a cool vibe due to its patrons who were predominantly young, hip and friendly. I'm pretty easy and undemanding so for the overall staff attitude to turn me off as it did is a disappointment. I'd have given the rating 1 star but for the fact they had a good musical ensemble which was nice and we enjoyed talking to and having fun with those around us. I did say earlier that the patrons were friendly but...
