Gold Star — Restaurant in Miami Township

I took my kids to Gold Star on Business 28 the other day to see how it stacks up to Skyline. We tried Skyline last year and, while it's good, it's nothing I can't do better at home, except the cheese, of course.

Parking: adequate Cleanliness: very good (then again, they'd recently restarted dine-in service and every other table was marked as a neutral zone) Service: very good

I try not to over-indulge on meat, so I asked to sample their "vegan vegetarian" chili. My son wanted to sample their regular chili. The waiter was very nice to bring out small bowls with an ample sample for each of us. He provided each of us with a package of oyster crackers.

We all ordered our different chili: veggie, 3-way & 5-way. My son regretted not ordering the large because he was still hungry, but I can't say that there was any less on our plates than at Skyline, including the spaghetti. Neither my son or I had cheese because we're lactose intolerant. My daughter's cheese was piled just as high as at Skyline, although she didn't feel the cheese was as nice as Skyline's.

Also, Skyline offers a slightly different solution for their veggie chili, and I was impressed at how good a job they did in simulating the texture and appearance of meaty chili. Unfortunately, I didn't try Skyline's veggie chili when I was there, so I can't compare directly. I thought that the veggie version tasted slightly better than the regular version, but personally we all prefer Skyline's flavor.

Unlike Skyline, my kids were not offered bibs to protect their shirts, which my daughter (a teen) wistfully commented on.

This is the worst of all Gold Stars. My daughter and I go to Gold Star every Tuesday she loves kids nights. This Gold Star won't accept drive thru orders on kids nights, even though their dining room is closed. We drive an extra 10 min to the Milford Parkway location which has never given us a problem. I've tried coming to this one several times now when I don't feel like driving further and the drive thru menu is always shining bright, you sit there along with other cars in line and nobody answers the window. Then you realize the place is CLOSED. yes, places have changed their business hours since COVID and need to update it on Google to reflect that, but this store has signs posted everywhere they are open till 8 o'clock and every single time I've went there BEFORE 8 it's been closed every single time. I honestly don't know if they are still in business or shutting down but the owner is doing a terrible job at running it. Don't waste your time you'll never know when it'll be open, maybe only lunch hours? Who knows? How about put a sign large enough for people to read and update your REAL hours of business so people know before wasting their time coming. And turn off the drive thru lights if it's closed!! A sign at the speaker would be nice! The parkway gold star has an automatic speaker that says we're sorry we are CLOSED when you pull up before sitting there like a moron with a line of cars wondering why nobody's...

I had the nerve to show up to this Gold Star an hour and 20 minutes before they closed two Saturdays ago. The dining room was closed but it said the drive thru was open until 9. This was about 7:40 pm. I ordered 4 coneys with light onions. When I got home I discovered they took chili and the hot dogs out of the fridge and put them on the bun without heating them up. They were I've cold and the chili was congealed. They had about an entire onion on each one. I ordered two double deckers. They did not toast the bread or cut the sandwiches and there was so much mayonnaise on them it was all over the cardboard boxes they came in. I also ordered fries which were taken right out of the fryer and placed in styrofoam so there was melted styrofoam all over them.
