As a fellow small business owner, I understand the challenges that come with delivering an exceptional dining experience to customers. It's with this consideration that I share my thoughts on my recent visit to Morla Restaurant.
Upon arrival, I was taken back by the steel fence separating the front of the restaurant from the street. The constant buzz of traffic disrupted what I hoped would be a serene and intimate meal; instead, I felt as if I was dining on a front porch, fully exposed to the open street. This lack of seclusion significantly detracted from my ability to appreciate the culinary offerings.
I approached the menu with enthusiasm, having frequented several Michelin-starred establishments with comparable pricing. Opting out of the tasting menu in favor of larger shared portions, I was eager to sample the spectrum of Morla dishes presented. We were a group of 4, and I ordered every single item on the menu (12) and each taco/tostada items ordered two pairs. While I found the Branzino Griliado to be delightful, other selections such as the tostadas and tacos fell short, oscillating between culinary highs and mediocrities that disrupted the overall dining rhythm.
Noise from the street was, regrettably, a persistent companion throughout the evening, further encroaching upon the dining atmosphere. Price is a crucial aspect of the fine dining equation, and it pains me to say that Morla seems overpriced by about 50% for the quality and ambiance it delivers. Miami is a playground of exceptional eateries that offer superior atmospheres, quality, and menu variety at similar price points, making it challenging for me to rate Morla alongside its local contemporaries.
The digital presence of Morla is certainly deserving of applause; kudos to the web designer and photographer/videographer for crafting a compelling online experience. However, this artful representation sets expectations that the actual experience did not live up to, which can lead to disappointment for diners expecting more.
In the spirit of constructive feedback, I believe that Morla Restaurant could greatly benefit from reevaluating its pricing strategy or relocating to a setting that matches the luxurious expectations set by its digital facade. It is difficult to justify premium prices when the ambiance suggests a more casual, less refined dining environment.
I appreciate the efforts of the Morla team and hope to see them succeed by aligning their offerings more closely with customer expectations, whether through pricing adjustments or environmental enhancements. It is with a hopeful heart that I leave these...
Read moreSometimes good things happen when you least expect them… Last Friday night, my wife and I went to Downtown Miami to participate in an event which turned out to be an opportunity to dine at Morla. I found this restaurant using the OpenTable app on our phone and decided to go for it. We found public parking conveniently located across the street, not free parking though… you need to pay through the metered machine on the lot. This is convenient knowing that parking can be an issue in any city's downtown. The front of the restaurant is unassuming, we had to knock on the door to be let in by a very friendly host who welcomed us and showed us our table. Once you walk in your senses are going to have a feast! Everywhere you look there is something that catches your eyes, the place inside is neatly and meticulously decorated. The restaurant is run by the owners Sharon who runs the floor and her husband (the Chef) who runs the kitchen. They are a power couple that together bring a modern fusion of Peruvian and Mexican cuisine that you must definitely taste.
The menu had 14 tapas to choose from, they all looked very tasty. We ordered a couple of cocktails, a Tinto de Verano ($16) and a Maracuya Pisco Sour ($16), this last one was a piece of art! From the menu we ordered the Guacamole with Octopus ($28), the Fillet Mignon Anticucho ($30), the Roasted Pork Hawaiian tacos ($23), and the Pear Pasta ($23). For dessert we shared the Lucuma Cheesecake ($13). We enjoyed our evening very much. We had the chance to talk to Sharon who told us about the plans they have for the restaurant.
So, remember if you are in downtown Miami and feel like having something different, set your GPS to 91 SE 2nd St. and you will find MORLA, a true jewel of the Peruvian/ Mexican fusion cuisine.
However, if you are very hungry this may not be the place you want to go. Remember, the menu is Tapas sized, enough for two people to taste the food... There were no entrees in the menu, we ordered 4 tapas which was enough for the two of us to share. Our final bill was $200+ which included a 18% service charge, and they give you the option to add more tips if you so choose.
The restaurant has two ambiances: indoor seating and outdoor seating... I cannot wait to return and try more items from their menu once the weather cools down, their patio...

But let’s talk about the food… absolutely AMAZING. Morla takes Peruvian Mexican fusion to another level. Every dish was bursting with flavor and incredibly well executed. Highlights of the night included the ceviche tostadas, the melt-in-your-mouth octopus, the perfectly cooked Branzino, and the vibrant tiraditos. And the pear pasta? So unique and unexpectedly delicious a true standout!
