My dad and I stumbled into this place today looking for some good vegan food. We originally went to Whole Foods but their hot bar was not set up. Thank God, because if it were, we'd have never found this place. We googled vegan food near us and this place popped up, so we headed over. As soon as we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. The place itself has such a magnificent vibe. The owner behind the counter could not have been nicer. We ordered their special Mongolian tofu. I don't have the words to adequately describe how incredibly decadent it was. Not only was it the best tofu I've ever had in my life (been vegan for about a decade), it might have been the best food in general that I have ever had. My dad and I felt high from eating this stuff. That is how outrageously delicious it was. The owner was super friendly and even brought us samples of some other menu items. It was evident that their food was made with patience and love. You could practically feel the good vibrations in the food as you ate it. I don't really consider myself a spiritual person but that is genuinely what it felt like. Then we ordered the BLK sandwiches made with eggplant bacon. Knocked our socks off. Didn't think anything could top the tofu, then bit into the sandwich and felt like we were transported to another planet. There is something incredibly unique and incredibly special about this place and its food. The owner explained to us that his wife is the chef and everything in their shop is her original recipes. She came out to bring us the sandwiches and you could immediately feel the good vibes and positive vibrations coming off of her. She could not have been nicer. Finding this place and eating here was not a "normal" experience. I was on cloud nine. I've had a lot of vegan food over the years but nothing - absolutely nothing - comes close to this. If you want a delightful experience and want some of the best food you'll ever have in your life, COME SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE AND THEIR BUSINESS. Lastly, the prices - absolutely fantastic. For those who left reviews complaining about the prices, I have to assume they have not eaten at other vegan restaurants because most vegan joints charge an arm and a leg for small portions. Not here. The prices at Plantisserie are extremely reasonable. If I was not moving out of town soon, I would be back here as often as possible. What a fantastic experience. Thank you for rocking my world with some of the greatest food...
Read moretl;dr - Pros: All vegan, wide selection of pre-made foods, cute space, free parking. Cons: food tends to be bland and not much above room-temperature
Biggest pro is it’s all vegan. It’s a plant-based market (beverages, ice cream, hand-made soaps) with already prepared food behind a deli counter. Entrees are $16.95/lb and that includes sides or salads. Or choose sides for $10.95/lb.
The space is really nice, cute and kind of boho, with old-fashioned French music being piped through the system (think La Vie en Rose, which we actually heard while eating our lunch). A bit odd for what seems to be a Latin-run restaurant, but fits with its French-sounding name, Plantisserie.
I really want to like this place. But on my second visit in as many years (we’re not local), the food still left me cold. Not in small part because this time like the last the entree was barely warm. Tepid, at best.
I had half a piece of Shepherd's Pie, sides of green beans, quinoa salad, tuna fish salad. The pie was supposed to have Beyond Meat but I detected none. The mashed potato had a nice crusty top but was otherwise flavorless. The only flavor came from the olives, which never featured in any Shepherd’s pie I’ve ever eaten. My husband had the lasagna, which he liked, but it also featured olives (why?) and looked quite dry. The green beans were cooked well in that they were not mushy and still bright green, but they also had almost no flavor.
The quinoa salad was nice enough, but the tuna salad was very good. Both featured, you guessed it, olives. (I love olives, but still. Seems like a substitute for actual seasoning.)
Other plus is that it’s a standalone building with a free parking lot.
As a longtime vegan, I always want to support vegan businesses, so I’m sure we’ll visit again if we’re ever in the neighborhood again. But since I like my hot meals to actually be hot, I’ll probably stick to the...
Read moreIt’s hard to explain how epic Plantisserie is. When reading about their menu before our visit, we were thrilled to find they had multiple of our favorite, hard-to-find, made from scratch dishes. I couldn’t imagine how I was going to choose between tofu veggie lasagna and shepherd’s pie, not to mention lentil meatballs, bean chili, tofu scramble, and many more. It turned out that there was no need to choose because virtually every one of their hot and cold dishes (aside from the daily special) is available by the weight, so you just choose what you want and they heap your plate high. Our favorite items were the mushroom quinoa risotto, the shepherd’s pie, the shiitake kale rice, the chickpea carrot salad, and the lasagna. The baked empanadas were also well-loved. We grabbed two sandwiches to eat the next day and enjoyed them both: the BKT (bacon “eggplant”) and the Provence (cornichons and lentil pâté). We also loved that Plantisserie has an extensive selection of organic/vegan local products, such as local kombucha (from Angry Booch and Counter Culture), homemade tempeh (tucked in our suitcase - cannot wait to bring home and try), and local kimchi/sauerkraut, to name a few. They also have locally made sweets (as well as their own desserts). Eddie’s chocolate turtles are a must-try. Our server was also so helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food.
We were overall SO impressed with the quality of the food (all organic), the variety and freshness, the explosive flavors, and the dedication to wholesome/healthy cooking. This was one of our favorite meals we’ve had in a long time in Miami...
