Sooo, a co-worker told me of a place in Miamisburg he heard was good. It’s a Mexican restaurant called Tacos Barros Jalisco. Its located on 2nd Street, so I decided to try it for lunch. I admit, I was a little thrown off at first because it’s set up in a house in the middle of the block, but there was plenty of street parking. Unless there is more seating elsewhere, it is a little cramped for space, though there was some outside seating on the porch.
I walked up the porch stairs, through the front door, past the dining area to a counter to order. There was a lot of handwritten signs about, but not really any pricing. It took me a moment to find a menu. Inside the menu, there was also no pricing and a lot of not-so-great handwritten notations. Since it was taco Tuesday, I decided to go with that. I noticed from the many signs scattered about, there are other specials throughout the week. I asked the cashier how much the tacos were, and she said $1.50. I was surprised by the price and figured they would be small tacos. With the options of beef, ground beef, or chicken, I decided to order three ground beef tacos. While waiting, there was a woman sitting also waiting for her order. I asked her if she had been to this place before and she replied, “yes, it’s pretty good.” I asked her for a recommendation. She said the tacos were a good place to start. She also mentioned that she was a fan of the fajitas and now was leaning towards a new favorite of the fajitas burrito b/c it was covered in cheese but is basically the fajita in burrito form.
I got back to the office and opened the box, and to my surprise, they were regular sized tacos in a homemade hard shell, topped with lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. I was asked if I wanted mild or spicy sauce. I went with the mild, which was fine. There was some kind of seasoning on the meat as it had that signature orange grease. (don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about). Using Taco Bell as a reference, they were pretty good. If I had a choice between Taco Bell and Tacos Barros, I would choose Tacos Barros hands down, though my tacos could have benefitted from sour cream. I have no idea what the regular pricing is, but for $1.50, you can’t beat that with a bat.
So I would say, give it a try if you are in the mood for a less expensive but good taco. I am curious as to what their other menu items are like and if they have that authentic flavor. At some point, I will have to see. They also have breakfast items. They don’t have a website, but you can find more pricing and menu options on their...
Read moreThe worst dining service I've EVER experienced. Service was slow in every regard. After sitting for around 20 mins munching on chips/salsa I spilled some on my arm and needed a napkin. None had been brought to the table. No big deal, I walk up to main area and patiently wait for the waitress to finish w/ another customer and ask for some napkins. "I'll bring some out when I get a chance. I can't take care of everybody at the same time!" Very nasty attitude. I was kind of floored b/c I was both patient and polite. WHen our meals come (after 45 mins)my wife's order is incorrect. She asked for shredded beef, but shredded chicken was served instead. The waitress said, "yea, we are out of the beef so the cook made you these instead" with absolutely no apology or asking if this was okay and darted off. The Chicken very dry and nasty. My wife didn't eat it and didn't want it. The waitress never came back to ask if we needed anything. When it came time to pay the bill, my wife said she didn't order the item and wasn't about to pay for something which was not ordered and not eaten (just enuf to determine it was dry/nasty) The waitress was rude and made a scene, but finally took the item off of the bill (after a bunch of back/forth). As we were leaving the waitress was calling my wife names in Spanish.
There are too many other more pleasant places to eat than to waste our time/money at this place ever again. The place is also very cramped/small. I knew this going ahead of time hoping the food would be great. It wasn't.
Edit to owner's Reply: You seem to miss the point: Customers expect to receive what they order -not some unsolicited menu item. Who does business like that? Why should somebody be expected to pay for something not ordered nor wanted? That makes zero sense. As far as being rushed; she was not rushed. We patiently waited (and waited...) for everything. The waitress was not insulted. My wife bit her tongue the entire time -as did I. Our young daughter understands Spanish and was taken aback by the base insults. Class act all around.
This dialogue should give potential customers some insight as to what might await them at Tacos Barra. ...
Read moreSupporting local small businesses- this is where it is at!!! This is our second visit and she remembered us- that’s almost as good as a bartender remembering to make your drink as soon as you walk in the door! Stopped by tonight for our second taco Tuesday meal, it’s been two weeks since we made our first trip we were welcomed and invited to be seated wherever we liked and she would be around shortly. Found a seat closer to the kitchen and was given our menu and drink orders taken. A few min later she arrived with drinks and the yummy salsa( for reals!!! You taste the cilantro, cumin and the macerated yummyness that salsa is- hubby said he could drink it like a chunky V8) She then asked if we had any questions or were ready to order to which my hubby asked if she had any tamales (out on last visit- glad madre is better:) they talked about what she currently had and then she went into givin the hubby some $h!t for saying her tacos he had last time weren’t the real thing. Being from soCal his street tacos were more than 2 bites last time:) She explained her favorite combos and why. Both visits I ordered the taco special for Tuesday; y’all 1.50 for a taco that is filled with at LEAST twice the meat you get in any taco anywhere else is worth it but then you add that the meat tastes like meat and well seasoned meat- you don’t find this just anywhere!!!! Last time I had the beef tacos, tonight I had one chicken one shredded beef- we also ordered queso this trip and will order it ALL again and many times!! Pro tip- add a solid squirt of the tomato salsa to the queso 🤌 we find the tomato to be warmer than the sorano which is backwards to what we’re used to. For the staff, atmosphere and FLAVOR this is...
