Came here with my parents. Me and my dad got turkey dinners. They were pretty decent. My mom got the stuffed cabbage and salad bar.
My mom was initially impressed by the salad bar, but midway through our meal, we were surrounded by flies that wouldn't leave us alone. It was pretty gross, and they kept trying to land on our food. It made us uncomfortable and worried us given there is an open salad bar without lids overtop the food.
The gift store is fun, and I'd say it's worth going here at least once. It's very extensive with local goods and fun knick knacks. It reminded me of Cracker Barrel, almost.
You can't share from the salad bar, which is kind of silly. But I guess I didn't miss much if there are flies landing on it.
It's definitely tourist-y. If you live in the area, it kind of feels like a silly stereotype. It was entertaining nonetheless.
The food is somewhat bland, but honestly reminded me of my grandmother's cooking in that way. The turkey dinner did not come with stuffing, that would need to be added seperately, which is a shame.
The creamed corn was not great, but it might be personal preference. It seemed like it was thickened with cornstarch and was whole kernel corn.
Salad bar selection was good. Only drawback was the concern of sanitation with the flies.
If the flies weren't there, I'd give the atmosphere 4 stars. But it...
Read moreStopped in here during a day of shopping, pouring rain all day and was really looking for some comfort food. The first thing that struck me was the cafeteria feel of this massive building. Sure, they have all the kitschy knickknacks, for sale in another area of the building, but still, cafeteria. Then the menu shows the big seller is the buffet $17.99 at least it was at 2PM and you could take your left overs with you at $7.99 @pound. Salad bar(standard), dessert bar( bare minimum) and main course. 2 types of chicken(fried & baked), chicken & noodles, standard side dishes, 2 types of gravy, meatloaf. That's about it. There were other menu items, of course, but price wise it just made sense to go with the buffet. I rarely take this option as I eat like a bird and cannot get past 1 plate but everything on the menu was priced about the same and I couldn't decide. It was OK but reminded me of being back in school. Mass produced food. Bland, no flavor, hospital food. My companion hated everything except maybe the banana pudding and the rolls. The nicest thing I can say about the place is that it was clean and the staff was very attentive and pleasant. Otherwise, it's a never...
Read moreWas looking forward for a couple weeks to try this place took my girlfriend and mom, was really disappointed with the food, walked in and was sat at a table where the floor was not swept from last customer, was expecting a bigger buffet then there was, went ahead and did the buffet and the baked chicken I got didn’t even look cooked completely the other chicken they offered looked like they killed a baby chicken bc u could fit the thigh in the palm of your hand and even close it and not see it, the corn looked like it sat for days didn’t get that even though I love corn green beans were ok, the best part was the mashed potatoes, and the salad. My girl got the Mac and cheese it was cold had to ask for fresh which they prob just nuked it. Wasn’t impressed with the gift shop the bakery was about bare I was hoping for cinnamon bread had none . The waitress was ok but never did ask if we wanted a refill and there wasn’t a lot of people there and this was about 3 pm or shortly after. Needless to say $67.00 later I can say I won’t be back. If u want Amish style food that is good hot clean and the bakery is awesome try the Amish Door it is well...
