East Main Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Middletown

This system really needs to include practical stars. While not a lot of experience with this food or many, if any, around to close it to i'm playing it a little safe. Formerly jerk fish, this is a hidden gem, maybe because it's not a frequently traveled part of town? This is a place that I usually get something different at most every time. This time I went for the fish n chips, a favorite of mine. I know I have at least one other posting regarding fish n chips, and this one holds up. I never think it's going to be enough food and I end up calling mercy every time. The fish was excellent, perfectly cooked. Just enough batter to give you that crunch but not so much you don't taste the fish. I don't recall the exact fish used in this dish, but naturally it's a white flakey fish. As for the fries they are the usual steak frie for with this meal and just the way I like it with some crispy and some not. The other two meals here are the pork and, of course, ox tail. I don't know this for sure, but ox tail has to be the most popular dish out of here. I've had this in the past. It's great, but probably not for everyone. Not the most meat, but maybe the most tender. I can't speak personally for the pork but of the the places we ate at it was mentioned that this was the best. And this was not the most expensive place! You may not give it a second look driving by. Not a big fancy stand alone brick n mortar or in a trendy area. This is your typical order at the counter and get your food. It's ok. I don't know if the cooks change out or not, but the first two visits were excellent with fantastic portion sizes and all of the seafood very superbly quickly fried in fresh oil just enough to cook it all thoroughly yet managing to reveal the delightfully tasty, lightly coated seafood with all of its true seafood flavor. The last three visits were disappointing enough to keep me from going again. Portion sizes are okay for the prices but the seafood is now overcooked terribly to the point of virtually NO seafood flavor at all, and every bite is tough and chewy. The coating is dark brown when served so it looks and tastes like long-overused, maybe too hot oil has been used. The french fries aren't exciting and definitely not distinctive or tasty enough for one to recover from the disappointment of the seafood. The result is an entirely lackluster lead-in-my-gut meal. No sense in taking home the leftovers. Cold or reheated they are still as unimpressive and unpleasant as "fresh"at the restaurant. Out of five meals the first 2 were dynamite followed by 3 yucks. I was just at this restaurant and I sat my purse down on the table, plugged my phone in while looking for my new friend Ronan. I wanted to give her a tip because of her hospitality. Even the owner is amazingly nice. Today I had an issue with the other worker. She's a mother that brings her kid to work. I played ball with him last evening. He had fun. I had ordered a piece of carrot cake while I was there last evening when the same woman was there with her son. I was on the toilet using the bathroom. She opened the door!?!! She started yelling at me while I was on the toilet, literally even her son whom I played ball with could see me on the toilet. She yelled at me to never come back. She was rude and nasty towards me. Shame on her. I wasn't even doing anything. They literally allow homeless people to sit and get free water from there. I can't believe she did that!!!!! She doesn't own it does she?
