I was disappointed in my experience here. The whole thing was just a little sketchy, average, underwhelming, and annoying. It starts when you enter and their doorway still has the iconic "g" as a handle. Which is fairly sloppy and noticeable. They need to figure out a better way to display menus because right now it encourages you to squeeze into a small hallway before the register that everyone has to go through, taking food etc., and everyone is wondering if they can go by and order or are stuck looking at the menus in the same tiny place. They also don't accept cash, which is understandable nowadays, but I saw no fewer than 3 customers walk out while I was waiting because they couldn't pay cash, after going through the trouble of ordering. One, how much business are you losing out on? Two, post it better, it's posted discretely in the front, but I only saw it after leaving and looking. Also, bathrooms weren't clean and weren't renovated, which is again really sloppy. Those complaints are a bit grippy granted. How was the food? Pretty good actually. Cooked well, came out pretty fast, enjoyable though not special (I've had just as good of burgers for less), fries were very good, probably one of the best parts. But the portions were kind of small for what you pay. And you pay close to 2 dollars to add a single slice of cheese and then another dollar or 2 for a bacon strip or two, which is always frustrating. 4 dollars drinks you can't even take to go always feels a little bad. Also, the way they stored their straws kind of put me off, in a bowl, unwrappered, not in a dispenser. My mind kept going back to some kid with snot on his fingers touching all the unprotected straws. If you want unwrappered straws, just add a dispenser. Burger didn't even fill me up, which is unusual for me it doesnt take much, and it cost as much as a high end burger. The place just felt a little price gougy. And it's atmosphere isn't great, employees weren't all that friendly, they did their job, just nothing extra, no one came by and asked us how we were doing or if we wanted anything else or smiled and asked how we were doing. It felt like a new coat of paint on an old place and didn't sit well. It just felt a little off, soulless. Come here if you want a pricy above average bar with burgers. Stay away if you want...
Read moreFrom what I understand, Grub Burger's chain was bought out by Hopdoddy. Given the state of things before the buyout and minor remodel, I thought that the new name and ownership would improve things. I was incorrect.
Given the economy, I'm used to seeing inflated prices. But this was a new level of it, given the quality. The burgers themselves were average, but I don't know if they're $15+ on their own good. Adding fries costs an additional $4.50, and my tray was cold, containing had a mix of somehow half overcooked and half undercooked fries (ie, some were sad and floppy, while others were too crisp to bite). Add another $3.50 for a drink, and your per person cost is $23 before taxes. For this price point, I'd expect the food to be good all around, not just around the same quality of food I could get from say, Wendy's.
The store was no overly crowded, which while I appreciate not having to scream to my dinner guests to get a point across, may speak volumes of similar experiences that other guests may have had in the past, leading to poor turnout of customers. I'd like to see improvement of this location, as when Grub first opened it was easily my favorite place to get a burger, and I'd like to see that level of...
Read moreI like eating here. I only wish the prices were softer on my wallet.
I have tried a good variety of burgers from their menu and have yet to be disappointed. Actually, one of my favorite "burgers" they had was the Po Boy back in April. We're in Midland, TX and it was better than the different Po Boys I've had in New Orleans!
Now one time I got the "Kitchen Sink" shake and it was so salty it was crystalizing in the cup. It was so salty, that even drinking about 1/4 of the shake caused me to get nauseous, and my heartbeat spiked. I think this was just an error, however, I've been too scared to try a shake there since xD
One other thing to note is their "spicy" burger isn't spicy. I don't dock them for this since it was still delicious.
If there were two feedback points I would give is: calm down on the salt in the "Kitchen Sink" shake, and really nuke up the spicy burger - DON'T remove the Jalapeño seeds, that's the spicy part!
Edit: The "scorpion burger" inferno style is the kind of spicy I'm looking for. I wrote this review and realized I intended to try their next level of heat. 10/10 I loved it. Please just look...
