Tkilaz relocated from Florida Street to Garfield and at the time of my visit, the staff was still learning the ropes, so to speak. While we weren't 100% impressed, we rate them higher that other Mexican Restaurants in the Midland area and plan on trying them again after their staff has had a chance to settle into a routine. At this time, I am giving them a 3 star review but I have faith that this will go up to a 4 or 5 by the time they work out the kinks.
Our visit was on a Sunday at 12:25pm, with a 30 minute wait time to be seated. The booth we were seated at was in great condition with no holes or dips in the cushions. It took a while for someone to come take our drink order and bring us complimentary chips & salsa. Drinks are served in larger than normal cups which is nice because it requires less refills. There were two salsa's. One was a traditional salsa made of tomato, jalapeños and onion, that had an ever so slight kick to it. The other salsa is more common in West Texas, made from garlic, jalapeños and tomatillos. In addition to these, we ordered their house queso which is a thin cheese dip that pairs nicely with the tomato salsa. We finished a basket of chips before our waitress came over to take our order. By the time our food came out we were all pretty full from chips & salsa. The bacon wrapped shrimp was made of small shrimp wrapped tightly in bacon so that you could fit one whole shrimp in your mouth at a time, no need for cutting it into smaller pieces. They were good, but in my opinion they needed more shrimp to balance out the richness of the bacon. - The beef fajita plate came with more onion than I knew what to do with. The beef was tender and flavor not overpowering, but not what traditional beef fajitas resemble. - The rice has a homemade taste to it that we enjoyed. We waited for about 10 minutes after completing our meal for our waitress to come around so that we could request our ticket.
WE WILL TRY THIS PLACE AGAIN IN 3-6 MONTHS, IT...
Read moreWe had a bunch of family in town and decided to go to Tkilaz because they had a private room that would be able to accommodate all 25+ people. Though we had a large group, we were sitting at separate tables and each family unit had separate tabs (between 2-5 people per tab). However, they only had ONE waiter/server to take care of everyone (only one who spoke English, anyway). On top of this, we were treated like one big table, so it slowed the entire night down. Our orders took seemingly forever to get taken, get served, etc. As a result, many people weren't served anything for almost an hour after sitting down, not even a drink. Many of the orders were missed, forgotten, incorrect, etc. They waited to bring out drinks all at once, resulting in many of the drinks already having their ice melted before ever being served. The menus were not consistent in their pricing. One menu might say an item was $11, but another would say the same item was $13.50, and yet another might have a sticker over the price saying it was $12.99. No one knew what the price was going to be, but it wasn't worth asking the waiter as that would just make things go even slower. By the end of the dinner, it was close to 2.5 hours since being seated. In general, it was just a poor managerial decision to serve a large group that way. I don't know if they were understaffed that night, but by the way it looked, it seemed like they had plenty of staff standing around who could have helped.
I think if they would have used 2-3 servers to serve our group, we wouldn't have had to deal with so much trouble and wasted time. It would have been much easier to keep everything straight, and we could have been in and out an...

Ordered the same thing. My husband had enchiladas, I ordered Asada tacos. At this location, again, my husbands food came out cold. I’m talking refrigerator cold. The only thing hot was the egg on top that they HAD to cook. My water cup smelled like mildew. I asked for a tea instead. Never got it. My Asada tacos were rotten. Flat out, spoiled meat that they cooked. My charro beans were room temperature. I took one bite of my tacos and knew. Again, the manager never came out, never acknowledged the problem. I don’t understand why this company does not cook food to order anymore, but they have lost this customer for good. Such a shame. It was excellent when they first opened.
(3 months ago) Went at 5:30 today. Husband ordered enchiladas, I ordered Asada street tacos. We each had a cocktail. Our food came out and my tacos were cold and grey. The meat was cooked previously, then microwaved or sitting on a steam table. The grilled onions and corn tortillas were even cold. I sent it back. And they literally sent me the same meat that they just cooked on the flat grill. So now, it was old, crunchy, overcooked-jerky meat. The manager never came out. Never came to apologize. Never acknowledged the problem. I gave my experience 2 stars because my server was attentive, compassionate and good at her job. It wasn’t her fault that the kitchen did not do a great job. Our bill, without me eating, was still $72 for my husbands meal, a kids meal, Queso and our cocktails. Will not be back...
