My daughter has been on a boba kick lately but we live in an area that doesn’t have any kind of boba tea available. We decided to drive the hour to Ben Wong’s in Midlothian to try it out. We ordered two different drinks and three mochi donuts from the kiosk. Unfortunately one of the drinks we ordered didn’t have the boba we added and the other drink (taro milk tea) ordered with popping boba had both popping and brown sugar boba. Normally I wouldn’t say anything but my daughter isn’t a fan of tapioca boba and couldn’t drink the drink. A young male (tall with brown hair) made the drinks but wasn’t at the counter so I told the young lady working the counter that the drink was wrong and that he put both bobas in the wrong drink. She kindly went to remake the drink. My husband and daughter witnessed the young male back at the counter asking her what she was doing. She explained the issue with the drink, he rolled his eyes and loudly said he didn’t make the drinks wrong, jerked some empty boxes around and stomped out the door with a huge attitude. He certainly made my drink incorrectly because I paid for boba that was NOT in my drink. The young lady (who was very pleasant) explained that the taro milk tea comes with traditional boba, I apologized and told her that we didn’t realize and that we were sorry to inconvenience her but that he DID make my drink incorrectly because I paid for boba that he didn’t put in my cup. She gave me boba is a separate cup.
The drinks were fine, but this young mans attitude was absolutely uncalled for and is the only reason I would never go back to Ben Wong’s Tea again. Mistakes are easy to make and not a big deal, it’s just a drink, but his attitude was entitled and gross. After driving an hour just to try something new only to be met with such terrible customer service…
Hopefully the owner/manager sees this comment and can offer some additional training to this employee on how to conduct himself more professionally in front...
Read moreThe soft opening for Ben Wong’s Tea was on July 1st, and we stopped by July 2nd. I am happy to say that this place was very good and has a great potential to grow already! A great boba tea place where you don’t have to drive into downtown Richmond, dealing with the traffic and struggle during peak hours to find parking!
They have dairy alternatives such as oat and soy milk if you cannot have regular dairy. We got the Crème Brûlée boba tea and the Earl Grey boba tea, and both I would highly recommend! Especially Crème brûlée!
For the mochi donuts we got the Taro (purple), funnel cake (has red drizzle) and the Black Sesame donut (pictured in display case, but tasted like the red bean paste sesame balls from the Asian store/Chinese restaurant). All 3 were great! Perfect place for friends and family to grab a treat!
Great prices too compared to other boba tea cafes in downtown RVA. Got two boba teas with dairy alternative, and 4 mochi donuts for under $20. Some other boba tea shops we’ve been to in downtown RVA charge $20 for just...
Read moreThis is one of the few places left that was needed for us to not leave our town! Midlothian offers a lot, but definitely a specialty bubble tea place made it extra special. We ordered several different drinks and none of them disappointed us. The service was also excellent. The owner was very interested in knowing how we liked our drinks as we walked out of the store. That's the difference between providing a superior customer experience, engaging with your clients outside of the sale transaction. The cheese foam is something pretty new to me, when you are looking through the menu, there's the "cheese foam" type and the regular one. I was offered a sample and I decided not to have it. It is very rich and unsweetened, which brings a more balanced taste to overly sweet fruits and drinks. The cups of the drinks are super high quality compared to other bubble tea restaurants. We washed them and kept them Our kids loved...
