Our reservationāSunday, 1 PM during Happy Hour; appetizers were cheaper. To start, we had 12-pc order of Oysters Rockefeller, Fried Mozzarella & Hellfire Shrimp. All three appetizers were scrumptious, but if you like spicy food, the name, āhellfire shrimp,ā is likely misleading. Iām a person who doesnāt like spicy food & the shrimp (eaten with or without the so-called āSpicy Aioliā & āSpicy Cabbageā) were not spicy, but the shrimp had a crispy coating & tasty glaze, which made for some tasty shrimp complemented by the aioli & cabbage. Fried mozzarella sticks were a 3D rectangle, bigger than the typical cylindrical sticks, served with Fra Diavoli (not marinara sauce), which is traditionally a spicy Italian sauce, but again, as someone who despises spicy food, there was no fiery flavor kick here! As for Oysters Rockefeller, my husband & I try these from different restaurants & weād say these are #2 on our top 4 list (#1 is a place in Virginia Beach). Also, the hush puppies & sweet butter you get while waiting for your food are scrumptious! This is another food my husband & I compare at different restaurants, & these hush puppies are #3 on our top 5 list (#1 place is in Front Royal, VA, Talk of the Mountain, & we have ABSOLUTELY NO AFFILIATION with them other than just eating their food when we lived in Front Royal!).
My husband ordered Jumbo Scallops dish & was disappointed. While larger than whatās known as the (small) bay scallops, weād say he received medium-sized scallops, not jumbo. We get jumbo-sized scallops from Costco on a regular basis! When he tried them, he said they were overcooked, so thatās likely what shrunk the scallops. I saw his mood change, indicating his disappointment. Heād been looking forward to this dish (we read the menu before making reservation). He soldered on through the meal & said both the mashed potatoes & fries were good ā gave his meal 7 out of 10. They have unique fries (āSidewinder Friesā) that are thick spirals as you see in the photos with both scallops & fish tacos.
I ordered Stuffed Wild Flounder & was generally pleased with my dish - 7.5. All the flavors were delicious; however, my asparagus & Honey Sriracha Brussels Sprouts were definitely overcooked. You can see the wrinkles in the asparagus & brussels sprouts in the pictures.
My older son had Seafood Pasta & loved it - he said 9 out of 10. My younger son had Fish Tacos (with thick spiral fries) & said it was pretty good ā 8 out of 10. My mom got She-Crab Soup & said it was 9 out of 10; for her liking, it could have been a little thicker & her crackers were forgotten. She also got the Beet & Goat Cheese salad, but as of submitting this review, she hasnāt eaten it yet! She got full from the soup & appetizers! Because of the ingredients, sheās highly confident that sheās going to love the salad, especially because it doesn't have iceberg lettuce!
They had grinders for salt & pepper on the table, but none of us needed that to make our food taste better (husband didnāt try any salt & pepper to improve the scallops; for him, it was a lost cause because they were overcooked).
The place is in a strip-mall type shopping place with plenty of free parking & is handicap accessible. They have a bar, about 5-7 huge TVs, nice booths in the front of the place, & plenty of tables throughout. I recommend making reservations through their online tool (only allows for selection of up to 4 people from the ānumber of peopleā list, but you can use the open text field to let them know youāre making a reservation for more than 4 people, which is what I did). I received texts about our reservation the morning after Iād made the reservation, & they confirmed that they changed it to 5 people.
Servers were attentive (1 specifically for your table and others who brought food) & met all our needs. I recommend, but maybe ask for carefulness in not overcooking your food. If scallops & veggies had not been overcooked, scallops were jumbo, & things advertised as spicy had been spicy, then my overall rating would be 9.5/10. Instead, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my first visit to this location. I had tried to reserve a outdoor table for months but it was always full. I made a reservation for 6:15 for a patio table for 2 on a Friday night. I am a huge UNC basketball fan and UNC was playing Kansas so before I was willing to go to this restaurant and enjoy a outdoor meal I called the restaurant and spoke with a representative around 4pm and asked if they had outdoor TV's because I wanted to be able to see this game which started at 7pm. The host stated that they had several outdoor TV' s at the bar area. I asked the host if there were outdoor tables that you could sit at and still be able to see the TV at the bar...the host said yes and that she would reserve that table for my 6:15 reservation. We arrived at the restaurant on time and were promptly seated. We could see one TV at the bar area from our table outside so I felt like we would be able to watch this game once it started at 7....the waitress greeted us and we proceeded to order drinks and appeitizers....Oyster Rockefeller and hellfire shrimp. Everything was going perfectly....amazing atmosphere by the reservoir and food was delicious. Our waitress was wonderful as well...the bar was a little backed up so the drinks took a little longer than I would have liked...but overall everything was aces....UNTIL 6:55 when I had asked the waitress if the one TV that we could see from our table could be changed from ESPN to ESPN 2. Not a big request in my opinion...but it turned out to be one that the MANAGER Adam would not fulfill. I went to the bar and asked the bartender if one of the TV'S at the bar...there are four total....could be changed...he politely said that management would not allow the bartenders to change the TV channels. This is odd to me...I saw approximately 15 patrons sitting at the outdoor bar area and it appeared to me that no one was interested in what was on the TV'S. I went into the dining area and located a man that was near the indoor bar area and asked if he was a manager...he said yes...I asked him if ONE of the TV'S...there are 4...in the outdoor area could be changed....he said, I cant change them because other patrons had asked to see what was currently on the TV'S....that made no sense...there are 4 TV'S ...ONE in each corner of the square bar area....Two of the TV's were on ESPN which was showing a NBA game and the other 2 TV'S had ESPN 2 on which was showing the Kansas/UNC game....this is the game I wanted to be able to see from my table. I just needed the Manager, Adam, to change the LOCATION of one TV that was already showing the UNC/Kansas game....not a HUGE REQUEST....But Adam couldn't be bothered with my request...so he refused. I proceeded to watch the first 15-20 minutes of the game on my phone at our table. I asked our waitress who this Manager was and explained to her my dissatisfaction with him....she apologized and I told her that it was not her fault. Why not empower your employees to make simple decisions like putting TV's on a channel that is requested by its patrons...I spent over $100 for our first and what will be our last visit to this restaurant....and my desicion was solely based on a POOR MANAGER not accommodating a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOriginal review 3 months ago: Had the worst experience tonight with my family. We arrived at 730pm, and no one was at the hostess stand. Understandable because they were busy. There were two black gentlemen in front of us. A young lady walks up and answers the phone. Didn't acknowledge anyone standing there. She took a reservation over the phone. While waiting for her to get off the phone, the two gentlemen go to the bar and sit themselves. Another family walks in behind us. Conveniently, they are yt. The young lady got off the phone, and she acknowledged the yt family that came in behind us. I immediately say hello, how are you? She said fine. I said I have 4. She then asked the yt family, and they said they had a reservation. Without any further acknowledgment to my family, she starts helping the other family. We decided to walk out. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Not acknowledging my family, or at least saying, give me one moment while she helped a reservation is unacceptable for an establishment. Response to the Owner: This incident occurred 3 months ago. I would have loved the response in a more appropriate timeframe. But I digress! Which details of my experience were not accurate? Which team did you speak to? How could a team give an account of what happened when we only interacted with the hostess? No one else in the entire restaurant acknowledged we were there. There is no way the hostess remembered this one incident from 3 months ago. Even with camera footage. There was clear discrimination that occurred in your restaurant and due to that we will not be returning to this location. The WC Commons location treats ALL customers equally and respectfully. And my family has never been treated any differently than anyone else. You can ask to have this review removed, but I will continue to post my experience here, or on any social media platform. No customer should be treated the way my family was treated. There have been other complaints of other customers experiencing the same thing. This has been expressed in mutliple Facebook groups! The two gentlemen in front of us was not greeted or seated. They sat themselves at the bar. If this is how you treat your customers, we would rather spend our money elsewhere. Instead of trying to get a review removed, maybe train your associates on how to treat ALL customers with courtesy and respect! Thanks again for your delayed response. And hopefully this review helps you all treat your customers respectfully, regardless of the color of their skin! And for clarification yt=white. It doesn't stand for anything racist or discriminatory. I used the abbreviation for character limit control but again I digress! And I hope this experience helps you all change for the...
