Searched for a breakfast spot as I was visiting my hometown and thought I’d give Southern Taste Diner a try. Easy to find. Was a little confusing upon opening door to restaurant as their was a huge foam board sign up on an easel stand about Humana that greeted me in the vestibule. Not sure why that is there? The next door opening leads to seating area but first your eyes meet the bar so I was a little turned around. No signage to say seat yourself and finally someone came to say sit anywhere you like.
Was presented with two menus in a crumpled plastic sleeve. (I was a bit turned off by that)
Coffee seemed fresh and hot. I went with the biscuits and gravy with over medium eggs. Aesthetically the way the food was plated was unappealing including the plate, HOWEVER eggs were made correct to order and biscuits were hot and fluffy and tasted good. Two large biscuits open faced with a huge amount of gravy ladled over top. I should’ve asked for one biscuit as it was a lot of food!
No one came to check on me until I was done with my meal.
I gave it 3 stars for my own experience all together. Place is a bit dark and gloomy on the inside with mismatched decor.
It has a lot of potential as far as atmosphere goes. In other words would be lovely if place didn’t feel so gloomy and gray and if it had a more cozy feel to it.
When I go out to eat, the food is super important but so is...
Read moreFood was decent. I run a small cooking business myself so I love trying other aspiring places. Decor and location is good. Staff was friendly didnt have to wait long for her. I placed a TOGO order I did have to wait for it but I called and asked them not to make it yet ,because I was running errands before and intended to stop on my way home. The apples were cold as soon as they bought my order out but I had to wait for the order because she said it wasn’t finished. I didn’t say anything because they could’ve put them in containers first and as a owner myself I know things get cold fast. However upon getting home the food and trying the food it wasn’t a wow for me as expected. The salmon cakes were good but did taste like the oil or whatever it was cooked in wasn’t fresh so it had a lingering oily/old taste. Also the eggs had no salt or pepper and were just very bland. Home fries are decent not much flavor however they don’t give you many. Apples taste like they came from the can with extra spices and flavor added. I would like to try this spot again because it has so much potential. I will try lunch or dinner maybe next time, as I got...
Read moreVisited for dinner on August 3rd. Wife ordered burritos with re-fried beans and rice as a side dish. I ordered the chicken pasta with Alfredo sauce. With both had diet cokes. Very impressed with the size of the drinks in the Ball jars. It took forever to get our orders, without any word from the wait staff. When the food did arrive, I thought I had the child's portion, and the Alfredo Sauce over rode the pasta, it eventually turned into cement. And I had one small little piece of bread. When I got my drink refill, there was a fly frozen into one of the small ice cubes! My wife's burrito was a wrap, it did not contain traditional burrito products and she never got the side items. The waitress said that rice and re-fried beans were inside the phony burrito. Clearly they were not. Mixed vegetables were apparently cooked in old hamburg grease on the flat top. They gave us a free slice of carrot cake which contained no carrots and very few raisins. It was dry and had the consistency of a grocery store cake. Wait staff were nice, polite but not very knowledgeable of the menu, neither was the cook. Need training in that kitchen or this...
