How did 12+ visits of a 5 star escape my attention? We really love this place. Some Yelp chatter caught my attention. The BOGO Monday seemed like the perfect first visit. Al Pastor I was not used to, but became an immediate fan.
I have heard this was a food truck that opened a brick and mortar. I know this is not the only location, so I cannot speak to whether it is their first.
Located in the Gahanna strip center on the northeast corner of Morse and Cherrybottom. Looking past the UDF gas station, is the BW3 anchor business. They are just next door. Plenty of parking in this large shared lot. The surroundings always appear clean and orderly. Several handicap parking up front. The front window has seen its share of advertising for local music and entertainment.
Through the glass door, you are greeted with a savory smell and a clean interior. About a dozen decorative tables and chairs pattern the floor on your way to the walk up counter for ordering. It's an open kitchen where all food prep stimulates your menu decision, as your taste buds flex. An overhead menu is pretty easy to navigate, with a few highlight pictures. Look to your left for the light-board of today's special. A Tip here, just like any other restaurant, would be to look around at what others are eating to help you decide.
From the friendly staff that takes your order, to the smiling kitchen staff, you are welcomed. I was mesmerized by the gyro tuning heat source for the Al Pastor. Note the pineapple that sits on top. It gets a lot of use, since so many people order their recipe taste. No one making homemade tortillas, or complimentary chips and salsa. It's not fair to remove a star for this. Only if they claim this, and fail.
Take your drinks and have a seat. I was curious about what these bowls are on the tables. Peppers, onions, limes, cucumbers. Now the second visit, I was a little skeeved of the fact that others dirty hands were in the bowls. I simply asked the girl at the counter, and received fresh bowls from the cooler. The others were dumped and sent to the sink.
The food is very good. I do like that avocado salsa. It took several visits to get us off the tacos and nachos. The chipotle sauce on the fish tacos is a winner. Ask for it on anything. Although I've now tried many things on the menu, there is still much to try. I have been to plenty of places that claim authentic Mexican. I hold many of them up to the level of the food I get here. Even while on vacation in Mexico.
This is a great place to take visiting guests from out of town. Great food, and little soccer on the...
Read moreOrdering was excruciatingly difficult. One employee was training and didn't understand what I meant when I said the number 3. The employee who was doing the training understood a great deal more but when it came to certain changes to a food item, neither understood the specifics. I'm a very patient person but when you look confused, then look as if you understand, then I find you actually didn't, it's f frustrating. We had to have an order remade. We'd already waited a very long time for my daughter's family's order and she had called hers in; it also was made wrong. My daughter asked the trainee on the phone what came on the quesadilla; she was told meat and cheese. Well, it actually comes with onions in addition to the meat and cheese. That had to be remade and we'd already waited longer to get her call ahead meal than the one I ordered in person. We were there for about 45 minutes before we got to leave with food... food that was finally correct. I have always lived this place and the people who work there are normally a little shaky on their English. This is absolutely to be expected and there is nothing wrong with that. They care, they do a great job, the food is tasty (albeit often greasy), and I love the deeply carved and decorated wooden chairs and tables, it's gorgeous. However, I've never come into contact with someone who can't tell you what is and isn't in their food. I'm pretty sure employee one was training, if so, then why is she answering the phone alone, unable to answer questions, or appropriately enter the good into the system. This experience was...I...
Read moreMy wife ordered takeout in person. Order was wrong when she got home. Small orders shouldn’t be so difficult. She called & tell them she ordered 4 tacos and only have two. They put me on hold to check the ticket; they only rang in two… but they will make them for me. I tell them that is great but when I come back, the two I have now will not be fresh, and they are for me and my wife to eat together. She said that I’d like all 4 fresh. Exactly as she ordered. When she walked in for the second time, she was expected to pay for 4 tacos. She understood they made 4 fresh, but I’ve already paid for two when she initially came. So she should only pay for (at maximum) two additional tacos, per their mistake. They don’t know how to take responsibility for their mistakes or fix them. She normally asked them to repeat my order before I pay but this one time I didn’t, so clarify orders or they’re likely to be wrong. She asked for no onions on mine and still got onions, and the tacos were dry and flavorless. Asked for extra pineapple and limes, didn’t get that either. Won’t be back because they can’t fix simple mistakes. You have literally...
