I finally had time to myself to check out The Corner, and I am 100% sold on why people rave about it!
First off, it's in an absolutely charming location. The decor and atmosphere are cozy to a point of reminding me of my own home. The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive, which adds that much more to the experience.
My first visit I tried the Flaky French Flatbread, branching well outside of my typical habits. I'm not often a fan of smoked Gouda, but the overall combination with the eggs, onions and hollandaise was delightful. The flatbread was crispy and flaky the entire way through, which I found satisfying as often things grow soggy.
My second visit, I had the Apple, Cinnamon, Raisin and Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast. I've never had French toast even remotely close to this before. They use French bread, which is a nice change from the standard white bread or Texas toast. The outside of each piece is crispy, but not hard or crusty. The inside is creamy and soft. The apples still have a bit of firmness left in them, and the raisins, though present are not overbearing. I tried it both with and without syrup, and honestly, they don't need a drop.
On my first visit, my waitress was going over seasonal offerings, and mentioned Pumpkin Milk. I was intrigued, so ordered it. I LOVE pumpkin. The pumpkin milk is actually pumpkin flavored, served with whipped cream and a seasonal cookie or Oreo. Definitely give this drink a try, it's delicious!
Additionally, the restaurant is maintaining the utmost care in regards to the covid pandemic. There's hand sanitizer just outside the door, the tables are comfortably distanced, and I saw no out of place masks. I can't speak for pre-covid, but everything I was served food on was disposable, which seems sensible at this time.
This place is absolutely worthy of all the praise it gets!
Edit: if you order delivery, you apparently get a cute joke written...
Read moreLove, love, love this place. This is one of the few restaurants we've enjoyed on the East Coast! Best place in Milford, CT for sure.
I've gotten the crab cakes Benedict every time because it just so satisfyingly hits the spot. Everything is perfectly cooked, spiced, well seasoned, and appropriately priced. My father in law visited from England for two weeks and insisted we keep going back in that time!
My husband gets something new every time and always scrapes his plate clean. He's ordered the spiced Indian duck tortilla, tasso, the trio, breakfast burrito, African hash, and the mushroom burger. So far, the South Indian spiced duck has been the biggest crowd pleaser and "winner" with our group. That said, the tres leches cake ALWAYS makes our dessert choice easy (and even inspired us to try to make our own).
The staff is very friendly, conversational, and makes excellent recommendations. Our glasses were always full and they put fresh flowers on the tables. The decor isn't my style and it's a bit crowded for my taste, but I can't blame the crowds when everything here is so darn delicious.
Bonus-- If it's too tough to get in, they also do take out (which was timely and just as delicious as in-house).

Read moreMy girlfriend and I who haven't seen each other in over a year decided to meet here for breakfast this morning. The food was ok - honestly a bit over priced, especially for a place that only takes cash. Service was super quick, almost too quick. Our food came in less then 10 minutes of ordering which would have been fine if we were in a rush but as busy moms we were looking forward to a relaxing meal with time to chat. About 15 mins after we were done eating the owner came over and asked if she could take the chair that we were not using, which was fine of course but was clearly supposed to be a hint that she wanted us to move along. 15 mins later she came by again and basically told us we needed to leave because there were people waiting and they have an hour seating limit on weekends. Seriously? I live in Guilford - we have a little breakfast spot in town similar to the Corner Rest. - the food is better, cheaper and they would NEVER have asked paying customers to leave so they could turn the table around. Needless to say, my next breakfast outing will be closer to home! They should rename themselves, No Class on the Corner Restaurant. My advice, there are plenty of good diner's in Milford -...
