Me and my family have lived in the Millcreek area for over 5 years now. One thing we loved doing was get breakfast on our days off here. It was a staple for us we brought family and friends here when they visited us.
Lately within the last 6 months me and my wife have noticed this place has been waning in quality and service. Last time I went here it was me and 18 month old son. We waited over 45 minutes to get a table. Sure they were slightly busy, I’m understanding. But once we got sat and ordered we proceeded to wait another 45 minutes. My son started melting down. No one told us food is taking longer than expected. I finished my coffee and wasn’t offered a refill, my son finished his milk and the meltdown started getting worse. That was when I noticed the group that got sat when I first arrived had just got their food. Any parent can align, dealing with a hungry toddler in public is not a great experience. So we left.
Today we decided to give Millcreek cafe one more try. Well we arrived, put our name on list, sat down. Then the owner came out and blasted me and my son in a busy lobby about leaving last time, beyond unprofessional. He could have at least pulled me outside to have a conversation with me so I could properly explain myself. I was so taken back and utterly embarrassed about that I couldn’t even properly explain the situation.
So we went to Eggs in the City instead; a busier and slightly more expensive location in the same area. I waited 15 minutes, seated, ordered and had my food in less than 10 minutes.
It’s a shame that a place that my family has been to so many times over the last 5 years is now a place that we will never go back to.
Go to “Eggs in City” or “Over The Counter Cafe” in Millcreek you’ll have a better experience.
*Update: Owner replied that I walked out on my bill. You can’t walk out on a bill if you were never given service. I never received any food. It’s not my fault this establishment had awful service on my last visit, that’s on them. How the owner has responded to this only validates my point. I’m not slandering a local business when I’m expressing how I had awful service and was called out in a full lobby with my...
Read moreIt has really gone downhill. My husband and I have been coming here for years. It used to be a Sunday ritual for us. Now that we have a toddler, we each liked to go on our days off with him to start a nice tradition. Every time family and friends are in town, we have taken them there. Even if we could sneak in only the quickest of breakfasts together as a family, we went here.
When we first started going here, we had great service and the food came super quickly. Coffee refills came super quickly. Everyone was friendly. The decline started when Covid hit. They started automatically charging a 20% gratuity for takeout, which is absurd. Do not put the onus of paying employees fairly on the consumer. We are already paying for your product. I would have already tipped them as I too work in a customer facing field but forcing me into what you deem is a fair tip for simply handing me a bag is not the way to go about it.
In the last several months, there seems to have been a changeover in staff. Items were getting forgotten, the potatoes are getting overcooked, coffee refills aren’t provided without having to ask. The food takes a long time to come. If the absolutely lovely gal with the dark hair isn’t there, forget about anyone coming by your table after you get your food. And yet, we still went there because we loved supporting a business in our neighborhood and it’s sentimental for us.
However, with all of the changes and a dining event that happened with my husband and son, sadly, we won’t be going here again. I’m really bummed about it. Instead of asking questions and seeking to understand why a long time customer may have left before getting their food, an accusation was made. You never know why a person may suddenly act in an unexpected way. I’m sure that you get people who dine and dash but this was not the case. Please think about this in your future interactions...
Read moreI wasn't too impressed. The food was cold by the time we recieved it and the wait for the table was 45 min. I'm used to a wait. however, the wait space is so very small and cramped that when it's bad weather outside, like it was, everyone is standing like sardines in a can, sweating, and bumping into each other every minute. The syrup sits on the tables at all times and is cold. if you ask for the server to warm some up, be prepared for a mean glare, huff, and then it taking so long, it was pointless to ask to have it warmed up. the food was average and nothing out of the ordinary or that you couldn't find anywhere else at a lesser price, warm when you receive it, and from a server that has actually brushed her hair and done more than put on sweat pants, gathered messy, matted in places, gressy, hair into a half way put up side ponytail, with hair falling all over around and into the food. When you would ask for something from a server they would not take care of a simple request (getting a new fork), they had to get your server to do that because they were too busy SLOWLY doing something of their own, and then our server would show up by chance 10-15 min later to check on us and I would place the request. Coffee was purchased when we sat down as a beverage and never once was refilled, even upon request. FOOD = OVER PRICED FOR ORDINARY FOOD. SERVICE = HORRIBLE! I GAVE THE CAFE 3 STARS FOR: 1) TRYING 2) ACTUAL EDIBLE FOOD, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS COLD 3)...
