Brady Street’s stretch is full of many restaurants guaranteed to satiate any palate. You can walk through a world of cuisine in less than a quarter mile. In the mix of it all a very relaxed outdoor patio welcomes you. The sign with a beautiful serif font ‘APOLLO’ cements its namesake. Apollo is the god of healing, medicine, archery, music, poetry and the sun. While archery doesn’t happen, during warm Milwaukee summers music can be heard on the patio, enjoyed with a wonderful spanakopita.
Apollo Cafe is the Greek restaurant of Milwaukee. They put as much love into their food as they do for their country. There is absolutely no other Greek place in this city that comes close.
This is your order at the counter type of place. Even at its busiest they will make sure your order is at the quality they would expect for themselves.
The crew at Apollo Cafe is very warm and welcoming. Always down to strike a conversation and have such a well oiled system that other restaurants should take note.
The food is delicious, a menu just wide enough that you can bring the kids or you can try something new. The great thing about Apollo is you can try something new and it’s the best one in the city.
You can go up to Oakland Gyro’s, and honestly that’s fine. They run their business have they’re own roots. Apollo Cafe will still take the gold, Oakland Gyro’s def shouldn’t be skipped though! Milwaukee very lucky to have excellent establishments so close.
Milwaukee should be proud a place like Apollo Cafe exists, we all know there many other excellent spots. But if you’re looking for THE Greek Restaurant of...
Read moreI don’t usually leave many reviews here, but I decided to give a chance to this jewel of a restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I was immediately blown away with the excellence of its service, the quality of the food and the eclectic atmosphere of the place. I’m a great fan of greek culture to the point of dedicating a great extent of my career and life to the study of philosophy/ancient greek history, however I grew up in a place where finding authentic greek cuisine is very hard. The food’s quality is superb, I’ve tried a couple of things off the menu and so far I recommend some of my favorites like the Athenian chicken, the gyros or the spanakopita (but honestly you can taste the quality in everything that you can possibly order, they offer a bunch of healthy options and there is something for everyone in the menu, trust me; also try the lemonade or Mythos, the hellenic lager!). Shoutout to the staff, specially Spyros. The staff is welcoming, detail-oriented and engaging. Honestly, they make you feel like you are a part of the family. Without a doubt, the most welcoming environment and service that I’ve experienced so far in any restaurant here in Milwaukee has been at Apollo cafe. Thank you so much for sharing your traditional recipes and culture with our community. I’m learning a lot and I absolutely appreciate tasting dishes that I never had the opportunity to experience before. You definitely have a returning...
Read moreI think this is a really nice place to go for some pretty good Greek food at pretty good prices.
Their soda(free refills) is only $2 which is a great price considering the "big box" restaurants that charge $4 and $5 for a soda that comes loaded with ice unless you say you want no ice.
The spanakopita is the only item we find is not made the standard Greek way so are not fans of that, but what they do have is: Excellent dalmodes Gyros off a spit with a good portion of onions and tomatoes. The tzatziki sauce is in a squeeze bottle so you can have as much as you would care for. Pastitsio where the meat sauce has that cinnamon and nutmeg flavor and a really bechamel topping. Moussaka is good too. If you order any of those as plates you get fries, rice pilaf or greek style stewed potatoes that are as good as any you would get in Chicago's Greek town restaurants, you also get a plate with a few pitas cut into slices with the meals.
The Athenian 1/2 chicken is okay, I've had better, but it is really close. Needs a little crisper skin and a little more lemon when you get it. The spices could be upped slightly I'd add a little more thyme and rosemary. It was cooked through but was still juicy though.
Decor is greek based but not over the top. They have several beers you can order and Roditis wine in the bottle.
If you are looking for a good meal...
