Before the pandemic, I'd been to this restaurant many times and really enjoyed it. This visit did not stand up to my memories, however.
The good: Parking and finding a shaded outdoor table was fairly easy for noon on a Thursday and the bathroom was very clean. There was no line to order and the employee taking my order was nice. Our food and drinks arrived quickly.
The bad: There isn't a kid's menu anymore, so I just ordered a large (vegan) Mac n cheese and strawberry lemonade for my two kids to share. The MnC was declared cold, gross and spicy by my kids and, while I disagreed with the spicy comment, it wasn't good. The strawberry lemonade was... orange, chunky, spicy, and did Not taste like strawberries or lemonade. Neither the kids nor I could drink it. I ordered the (vegan) Blatz sandwich and a cold chai. My chai was watery but acceptable. The vegan bacon on my Blatz tasted odd and was too thick, but overall the sandwich was just ok. Finally, I got the kids an Eastside Ovens banana chocolate chip cupcake from the display case to share. They ate the frosting, but spit out the base, so I tried it. The cupcake was partly raw inside! Outside the frosting, it was inedible.
Overall, I'm super disappointed. It was a waste of money, time, and we left with empty kids bellies I had to fill elsewhere. Frankly, this visit was bad enough I'm not sure I'll ever go back; which is a shame because this used to be a fantastic...
Read moreBeerline Cafe is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city. From the atmosphere to the food to the pricing, it's the perfect vibe for me. It's very casual but cozy - beautiful wood furniture, lots of plant life, three walls of natural light, and exhibitions of artworks by local artists (which are often purchasable). Everything on the menu is vegan by default (with some cheese/egg options for vegetarians), and delicious too. It's a really inspired menu with tons of variety from savory to sweet, Greek to Indian. There's also a range in terms of price. Everything's base price is super reasonable (besides maybe the smoothies which are super good anyway) and the menu has lots of customization options that make for endless variety. Standouts include their Pesto Mac & Ch'z (add tofu for a more substantial meal or cut it down to a side to pair with a wrap), Crepe Ape--a mouthwatering sweet tooth's heaven, and the Mushroom Barley Burger. Culver's style service--order at the counter and set your number at your table so they know where to bring your food. All the employees seem super cool and they've only ever been friendly. Everything is kept clean and they've implemented a lot of great sustainability practices (compost on-site, compostable to-go containers and garbage liners, etc). Ride your bike for 10% off as of the writing of...
Read moreI have been here about 6 different times. I went every few weeks after they first opened and a few years later I went not to long ago. In the beginning after ordering it would take a while before receiving your food. But the last time I went in there in June 2019 it was really busy inside and in my mind I thought we would be waiting a while but we got out food fairly quickly an it was consistent from what I remember. I am not a vegan or vegetarian but I have tried allot places that have vegan or vegetarian breakfast dishes and Beerline Cafe does it better than anyone else in Milwaukee for a restaurant. I mean I was absolutely shocked that the chorizo and eggs had no sausage and I couldn't even tell the difference because the seasoning was on par.
It's a bit on the pricy side and wait times before receiving your food have greatly improved since this place opened. It's a clean restaurant and the kitchen looks clean. Everyone seems to be really happy and the staff smiles. It's a cool place with plants hanging on the walls. I definitely will come back for more food and I would recommend this place for anyone who wants an all...
