Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs — Restaurant in Milwaukee

I absolutely love Cheba Hut so know that this 2 star has nothing to do with the food but everything to do with the "manager." My fiancée and I got a gift card for Christmas. I've tried using it twice before today but their gift card system was down. Totally get it. Things happen. Both times the staff were super sweet and understanding so I was never upset to pay regularly. Today I tried placing an order online and couldn't use the gift card so I called this location and spoke to a woman. I told her that I tried using the gift card online but it wasn't working so I'd like to place an order over the phone to use it. she took my order and when i tried to give her the gift card info she said "mmm can you just like come in with it instead." Sure. When my fiancée went in to pick it up they said they don't accept gift cards. I called immediately after he told me this and spoke with the same woman who is apparently the manager and asked her why she didn't tell me that over the phone before we drove all the way there. I have never been met with so much disrespect and attitude in my life. Not a single apology until I started pushing my concern and even then it was definitely a sorry not sorry. No resolution to my problem or even a concern on how to fix it. I was told that it is what it is and to figure it out. The cherry on top was getting hung up on in the middle of my sentence. I've been in food/customer service my entire life and the service I received today was mind-blowing. I will continue to support Cheba Hut because I do love the food and the bartenders I've had are splendid. Just don't expect much if you ever need a manager and hope you don't...

First I want to be clear, the food has been pretty good the few times I've had it. Great menu and the subs are tasty.

Day 1 was relatively quick, but our order taker was still learning the system and names of things. Understandable for new employees, no biggie.

It's been a couple weeks though and I haven't had that issue since. But the speed of the order is a bit disappointing now. I do get there's an expectation of slower service here, (they have a sign that says "it will be a miracle if you get your sub in less than 5 minutes") but I've been burned by excessive waiting twice now. The second time I was here I ordered online, showed up 15 minutes later, and still waited another 10.

Now I'm waiting for a sub for a third time. This time I ordered inside/to go and was quoted 15-25 minutes... only I was told that time after I already ordered. Letting me know the ETA beforehand would at least have given me the option to consider going somewhere else. It ended up taking 20 minutes exactly. At least they were accurate in the estimate.

If the service was just a little bit faster/smoother this place would be a lot easier to recommend. If you don't mind probably waiting a while then feel free to give them a shot! They have lots of good options, both with and...

Cheba Hut... there are no words. I first discovered you when I was working in Denver and branching out looking for new sandwich joints. This place caught my eye at first, then held my attention upon arrival, and lastly captured my heart once I had left. I always loved being dispatched back to Denver because I knew exactly what was in store, but I of course was quite disappointed every time I had to relocate. Years later now that I'm in Wisconsin, I decided to check out the best food in Milwaukee. I about lost my mind, as if I had just stumbled upon tangible dark matter which I could control and manipulate with ease, as I see CHEBA HUT on the map only 30 mins away. I was going to take my wife to a fancy dinner this weekend, but it was unanimous between her and I, and Cheba Hut became #1 priority. I don't know how you guys do it but the vibe, flavor, menu, and service are all remarkable 100% of the time. As very few things are without flaw, I would only say it's slightly pricey. Then again, that's probably just us getting too exHIGHted and buying extra sandwiches for future meals haha. Keep it up, Cheba Hut!(bars)....You guys...
