First time dining in this new restaurant and found a terrific dish that can be veganized - Coconut Rice, add tofu! I'll definitely be back to have this again. It comes with a small side salad of cabbage, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and a light vinaigrette dressing. The gigantic dish came with a huge mound of coconut rice on one side and a bowl of of the the tofu surrounded by a red curry sauce that tasted similar to Waterfall sauce--gingery and mildly spicy (I ordered a level 2 out of 5 on the heat scale). This was far too much for me to eat in one sitting so I'll be getting two, maybe three servings out of this, so for the price it's extremely reasonable. My boyfriend ordered a noodle dish that he had with tofu instead of meat and he said it was really good. We've never had Burmese food before, but it reminded us of meals we've had out West, in California. The taste is slightly different from what we normally have here in the Midwest, and it's a welcome addition to our food palate. If you're vegan, be sure to tell the waitstaff and ask about ingredients like fish sauce. When I asked our server what was in the Coconut Rice dish she said it's rice that comes with chicken in a curry sauce. I asked if there was a way it could be made vegan and I could have sworn she said something like, "You mean all meat, no veg?" I said, "No, the other way around, no meat and instead have tofu?" And she said, "Oh yes, no problem." So make certain you speak to the server about exactly what you want so there's no confusion. I loved the beer in the buddha shaped bottle! And our water was served in a corked bottle--haven't seen that since I...
Read moreThe food here is ok to bad, but I really want this place to succeed, so I hope they can fix the issues with the food.
My husband and I ate here with a friend, and we ordered the Samosas as an appetizer (absolutely delicious), and we asked our server for a recommendation for a second appetizer. She suggested the Pork Stick Skewers, so we ordered that as well. They came out in a bowl with a sauce, but were definitely nothing like the item pictured on the menu. We even asked our server what item we received, and she said it was the skewers. Many of the pieces of pork were tough and chewy without being able to actually eat them. We did not finish it because it was not pleasant.
I ordered the Goat Curry, our friend ordered the Lamb Curry, and my husband ordered the Roasted Duck Rice. The food was slow to come out, which was fine, but once it did come out, it did not come out all at once. Our friend's Lamb Curry looked the most appetizing, but the presentation of the food leaves about half the plate empty. The curry to rice ratio is about 50:50, and he would have liked more curry than rice on the plate. The Goat Curry was less appealing. There were bones and gristle still in the curry sauce, and the meat was really tough. My husband's Duck Roasted Rice was just a hunk of Duck with tough fat on it next to a pile of rice. We thought it would be mixed in, but it was not.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We left still hungry because the food was not good. At least we had...
Read moreWe got told there was usually a long wait, so we booked a table for dinner. The server was great and the service was top-notch. The vibe was cozy with limited seating. We liked the interior design and the booth seating. The food was top-notch! I tried the Burmese milk tea, it had a strong tea taste. Pretty good! The samosas were alright. Crispy, a bit bland, but the sauce was killer. The pork skewers were amazing. Soft and tender. The broth lacked in flavor, however, the sauce complemented it excellently. I opted for Kat Kyi Kaik with chicken, which evoked memories of Pad See Ew. It was rich in flavor and savory. As a dessert, I indulged in falooda. It was not excessively sweet but certainly delightful.
The egg noodle salad was not the most exceptional. The eggs were served cold. The dish had a distinct nutty flavor. The rice vermicelli salad was commendable. It was fresh and light. The beef curry was not overly salty. However, the beef was somewhat challenging to chew. The Shw e Yin Aye dessert was perfectly sweet. It was the ideal balance of sweetness. The restaurant's dessert service was picked up around the time we had dessert, and it was almost...
