Tonight, I checked out Paloma Taco & Tequila’s newest location in Bay View. If you haven’t been, now is the time to get yourself there. I cannot rave enough about the staff. Starting with our first interaction with the hostess to the bartender and servers - everyone was friendly, attentive, and helpful. They spotted a disability within minutes and made sure we were quietly accommodated with a comfortable spot to sit. Their menu recommendations were spot on, and it was clear the staff had tried everything themselves. Our server shared fan favorites as well as his personal favorites along with great tips, like adding avocado to the Hot Chips to make them even more flavorful. We came for tacos and mojitos and we definitely enjoyed them. For drinks, we tried the Midnight and the Tropical Mojitos, which did not disappoint. For tacos, we tried the Crispy Tofu, Carne Asada, Spicy Chicken, Pineapple Carnitas, Brussel Sprout (with the Queso Crunch) and added a side Elote Corn Cup. I was glad Pattie, the owner, encouraged me to step out of my taco comfort zone and be adventurous because the Crispy Tofu and Brussel Sprout tacos were heaven. We ordered more than we could possibly eat but every bite was delicious. For dessert, we split a Fat Elvis regretting that we didn’t have more to give. We’re already planning to come back and have our hearts set on the Smothered Burrito and salted caramel gelato!

Nice selection of vegan food here! I chose the Crispy Taco because of the avocado salsa and vegan cheese. Actually, all the ingredients in the taco were outstanding - different and delicious. But I didn't see much avocado in the salsa, and that's really what I wanted to check out. It just looked like regular salsa with the teeny-tiniest bits of avocado in it. Still, it was wonderful and I'd definitely order it again. The place was full when we got there at 5:45 p.m. on a Wednesday night, but we got a table for two, got served quickly and had a very nice time. I also had a Bloody Mary and even though the menu said it came with cheese, I ordered it anyway and said I'd give the cheese to my dinner partner. When it was delivered, it came without cheese and the waitress seemed surprised. She said it apparently doesn't come with cheese after all. One other thing that was new to me; I've never seen this in a restaurant before, but maybe everybody else has. The napkin-wrapped cutlery on the table when you sit down...it only had a fork in it. No spoon, no knife. Just a fork. Huh. My companion said he'd definitely order the Mexican Street Corn and Quesadilla again, too. All in all, a very nice place for vegans and pre-vegans alike. Our two-person dinner cost over $60, so next time I'll not order a drink (which cost more than my tacos).

I was so excited to come here. Saying I was really let down is an understatement. Our nacho appetizer came before our drinks. The Paloma I ordered was very watered down, and the Agua Fresca was a smoothie. Defeats the translation of the name. We ordered nachos, but a very cheap cheese was used. One of our orders was messed up. Despite utilizing fresh ingredients, the measurements of the combinations of the items used were not flavorful. My order was wrong, but I was not trying to point that out and have to stay longer. The music was way too loud. Our group and others had to scream to speak at each other. Before we left, all of our stomachs hurt. I will not be returning. Nothing about the food nor drinks were authentic or appetizing. $6 for a taco, even with the garnishing they used, was definitely not worth it.

I hate to be the person to write a review, I understand that in this industry people only go on the Internet to leave bad reviews when 95% of people enjoy there times. This is not the case, as a person who has worked in the industry for over 10 years, have opened my own concepts and have several family members who own restaurants in the area. We decided to stop in and try this restaurant because it's new and it is local.

Our experience started off well we arrived around 6:30PM. Drink orders were taken the drinks came out fine. The appetizer was ok not something to run home about but it was ok.

We moved inside to the bar where no bartender even acknowledged us. After a few minutes we flagged down a bartender. She made us a drink pretty promptly. This is where the experience went south. So it became very apparent that there was no manager in the building because many of the employees were being proactive some were dancing others were eating in the server station. Mind you I find the eating in the server station pretty repulsive, it was not a passing bite they were literally chowing in plain view of the guests. I also noticed that none of them had wash hands GROSSSS! At this point we have still been waiting for our food which was probably close to an hour. (should not allow employees to order food when you can clearly see the kitchen is struggling, however the kitchen didn't seem to be working to fast more concerned with dancing). There was a member of kitchen sitting at the bar drinking and casually walking behind the bar with open bottle of beer.

When the food did arrive, the order was incorrect. The server we had was awful, if the owner or manager care to reach out I can share her name with you. She loved to tell us how busy she was through the course of our experience but you can again very clearly see her eating and gossiping with other employees. 20 minutes later the correct food arrived and we were ready to go. We asked for our bill again it was obvious that there was nobody in charge in the building because no manager was informed or came to speak to us following our very obviously awful experience. It took me over an hour to get my food and my friends food took over an hour and a half. I didn't want anything for free however to have one person with food for almost 30 minutes longer than the person they were dining with is unacceptable and anyone or any leadership would know they should have at least taken care of the item.

Bottom line, avoid this restaurant at least for a few months until they get it together. I personally saw enough not to return but it could improve.

This was the new...

I seldom go out of my way to leave reviews, but this was not a great experience. Here are the takeaway:

Were told a table of 6 would take 30 min, then we were seated not even 10 min later. Seemed like a weird communication between host and servers. Ordered drinks at the table and they took 30 min to come. Two other tables sat after us and ordered drinks that came before ours did. Had to ask staff if the drinks were coming. Were later told the bartender was "training." Didn't seem right given other tables were actually getting their drinks faster. Food came out incorrectly for one of our party members because the server heard him wrong and put in the incorrect order. This is because (truly my biggest complaint) THE MUSIC IS WAY, WAY TOO LOUD. You are shouting across the table the whole time. If the server can't hear you, that's a problem. Never got utensils and at least one party member needed them. Had to get up and find a server to ask for a fork and they were out of clean forks where they normally store them so I followed this person around the restaurant to find a fork. The staff's attitude was leaving a lot to be desired. The person I asked for a fork seemed upset I approached them. Our server seemed unconcerned about the 30 min timeline for drinks. The host made a comment like "so, did you want to be taken to your table or...?" when I didn't hear her say she was going to seat us over the very loud music.

Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience - even for a Wednesday night. I can't imagine what a weekend would be like. We were there for a birthday and I would likely not recommend them to someone else for a...

We decided on here for dinner because of multiple vegetarian/vegan members of our party. Before arriving I was a little off put by the prices ($6 for 1 taco?, $6 to sub for a corn tortilla?), but I’m familiar with boutique/trending dining and had anticipated it would be around those prices anyway. The restaurant is fine, the service was good, the food was good. The bean and queso dip particularly stood out as a high note for the meal, but everything else was good or just okay. My primary issue was with the drinks, the mojitos were perfect but the Palomas were…bad. The other person at the table who ordered one said it didn’t taste like anything at all and mine was /so/ salty I couldn’t drink it. Other people at the table tried it and were shocked at the fact that it literally tasted like saline. I realize I could have sent it back, asked for a new one, something like that but it just didn’t feel worth the trouble for one drink.

The inside is decorated very well. The staff is very friendly. The music is quite loud which makes for difficulty ordering and understanding your waitperson, but again, that’s expected for trendy dining and was not detrimental. Due to the price and general ambiance I would definitely recommend this place for a happy hour get together, drinks and apps, but I can’t say I’ll come back for a full meal. I would be willing to give it another try, but all in all, the...
