There are two Oakland Gyros, the original on Oakland and their 2nd location on Layton by the airport. Both offer excellent food in a very quick way. The Oakland site is open late and is the ultimate late night food. Their gyros are always excellent. Best I have had arou d the country. I always order my meat well done (crispy) and order 2 extra pita as they pile on the meat and there easily more than enough meat for 3 sandwiches. I always get the platter as I want the extra meat. I can never finish it all and I look forward to.the leftovers the next day. ( Gyro omelets are the best) The area around Oakland can be a bit sketchy late night, however they always have security to ensure some.drunk idiot isn't causing problems. As a late night food place you will see more drunk idiots late, but it has never been a problem for us. Nothing else is really open late night and the fact that you can get a legit awesome gyro at that time is pure bonus. My friends and I have driven a half hour late night to get food. Now, my kid goes to uw-milwaukee and lives 3 blocks from there. Pure bonus. I know i am getting a gyro every time I go see my kid. Even if I just get one to go for later.
Last time we called ahead. We were 15 minutes away and in a hurry to.make a brewer game. We got there, our food was waiting and excellent as always. Definitely call in if in a hurry.
Parking near there is an issue at times. Definitely DO NOT park in lot across the street as the tow company actively monitors the lot and will tow you before you can get back to your vehicle. When super busy it is a bit crazy but it is worth it as the gyros are always excellent. Are.there "nicer" places to eat , maybe. Better food for a better price? Nope.
Oakland gyros is on my absolute favorites list. Their Layton location is considerably larger with better parking and a drive thru. I prefer that location but they are not open late night.
If you have never had an Oakland Gyro, you have not had a gyro!
Also, my daughter has a "tricky" stomach and can eat their food and not a lot of other places. They keep things...

I was looking for somewhere to get food, ANYTHING that wasnt McDonalds or Denny's, in Milwaukee late at night after Checkers told me they were out of everything (not kidding).
Yelp and Google both suggested this place. Open until 3am, and close to 5 stars on both sites. I needed to try them. I was not disappointed.
First of all they have the classic midwest Greek "we have everything" menu. Gyros? Burgers? Hot dogs? Pepper steak? Lamp shank? No problem.
I was really in the mood for a Philly Cheesesteak (which they have) but the staff and other customers convinced me to try the Athenian Chicken and a gyro. I really wasnt in the mood, I'd had bone in chicken for the past several meals (baked, fried, etc) but I am glad I did. It was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The seasonings and marinate they use are very lemony, not exactly like lemon pepper chicken, but if you dont like lemon pepper chicken, it might not be for you. I loved it.
It came with rice, salad, or fries, and again per recommendations I got the rice. It wasnt my thing. I'm real picky about how I eat rice, I dont like it plain. This wasnt plain, it had some sort of semi sweet sauce.
The gyro was standard issue, in a good way. Not notable for any particular reason other than being a good gyro for a reasonable price.
I visited again a week later planning to get the Athenian chicken again. They were out, so this time I tried the pepper steak, with fries. It wasnt quite as flavorful without adding sauce, but still was very good. The fries are also good, standard fries from this type of place-- a light malt coating, not heavy like Checkers or Popeyes, but not plain. I liked them.
I also got a chicken kabob sandwich, which didnt seem kabob like at all-- it as just a chicken pita wrap. The chicken was pretty bland.
Both visits there was a line, both visits my food was made fresh, and both visits they got me in and out in under 10 minutes/

Read moreThis place reminds me of the local gyros spot around the corner from my childhood home in Chicago. The interior, the atmosphere, and most importantly the food. As other reviews have mentioned this is probably one of the better gyros you’ll get in Milwaukee.
The gyros platter is piled with meat, onions and a couple slices of tomatoes. The gyros meat itself is seasoned just right and tastes just like the gyros you’d find at any local joint in Chicago. The tzatziki was legit—good tang from the lemon and Greek yogurt. The fries were crispy and the pita comes toasted/grilled. Everything was solid. I wish I’d brought some friends with me so I could try a larger portion of the menu. My only critique would be to dice the onions and add a little parsley.
I really have to acknowledge the service here. First, my cashier was so friendly. Most workers will exchange pleasantries and go about their day, but this lady was genuine. On top of that, when the line got a little backed up they had someone else take orders from the people waiting in line to expedite the process. They are attentive and work with a great sense of urgency which I don’t think should go unnoticed!
I really enjoyed Oakland Gyros and cannot wait to come back! They deserve 5 stars across the board. Amazing food, atmosphere, and noteworthy...
