The Backyard — Restaurant in Milwaukee

The Backyard nearly ruined our day. My wife and I are visiting Milwaukee and a friend was driving up from Chicago with his dog to meet us here. We liked the idea that it's pet friendly and you're able to bring your own meat to grill out, so we bought brats and our friend bought a steak on the way up. Their hours show them opening at noon, so when we arrived at 12:30pm we were surprised to see that they were closed. We tried calling them repeatedly but got no answer. We gave up after 15 minutes and went to South Shore Park. Since we are from out of town, we had no way to cook the meat other than walking around the park awkwardly asking people if we could borrow their grill for a bit. Luckily, a group hosting a child's birthday party was willing to let us use their grill for a while, otherwise our food and our time would have been wasted. I was just at The Backyard a few days ago I was really disappointed with my experience there. This was the first time I have been to a bar since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak. I was out on their patio wearing my mask and when I went up to the bar to order drinks the bar tender reached across the bar and grabbed my mask and said “you don’t have to be ashamed girl”. I have no idea what triggered that reaction to me wearing a mask in the middle of a global pandemic, but you should be ashamed of yourself girl! I can honestly say I will not be attempting to go out in public anytime soon after this poor experience.

This is a must see bar in the bay view area and a great place to hang out in summer. The name really says it all, it's a small dive bar with a large outdoor area, the "backyard". Selection of drinks is limited but the prices are great. Good place to hangout and have a beer with friends during the warmer months. Plenty of our door games to play such as bags. You can also rent grills and cook your own food. Very unique and interesting place. Bring a few friends, have a good time, let them clean up after.
