I visited spitfires on State during what Google said were open hours as well as their Facebook page only to find that they were closed due to an event until later in the day which was disappointing and only after my girlfriend complained on their Facebook page did they bother to update the hours for that day so after heading to the city and enjoying the day we eventually made our way back during the new updated hours and showed up during what looked like the preparation for an event later in the day themed after superheroes which was interesting but the only reason we visited was because we heard they had the best wings in Milwaukee and after having had wings at a few well-known spots we were not disappointed because in our opinion so far Spitfires does have the best wings with the best flavor options we went with an order of chili lime which was good and not as spicy as I thought it might be along with bacon bourbon barbecue which I think was the best of the flavors and finally the Thai peanut which was definitely the most interesting of the three. The environment is not as nice as many of the spots in the city somewhat of a dive bar but the service was good and the bartender there that day was friendly although when I first arrived I asked about their drink menu because I was looking at it online and was immediately told that they do not have one so when showed the bartender their menu on their website on my phone along with the drink I wanted she said she could make it with no acknowledgement of the fact that there was an actual drink menu and I don't know whether she was not aware of that or just did not want to bother making anything on it but in no way was she impolite and I appreciate her service also they have a outside patio on the side which would definitely be more suitable in a better neighborhood but it's still appreciated on a beautiful day so I would recommend anybody looking for great Wings in Milwaukee you should visit Spitfire because they...
Read moreMy husband and I wanted to try this place for the first time, specifically for the wings. We arrived a few minutes before 5:00 before the brewer shuttle traffic showed up, the lower level was near empty with a couple empty tables on the main level, so it wasn’t that busy except for people drinking at the bar. It took 20 minutes for a water and Arnold Palmer, meanwhile 3 tables that showed up after us got their drinks before us. We had to get our server to take our food order since we were waiting so long. We ordered 2 appetizers and wings for our meal. We never got our appetizers, and the tables after us were somehow able to get their food before us as well as additional drinks. We had to stop our server to ask when our apps will be up, and a different employee came to us saying it will be an additional 30 minutes, mind you we’ve already been at this place for almost an hour and considered walking out. They gave us the wrong food order, of course ordered by the people who sat after us. They waited until the wings were done to get our apps, apparently one was sold out and didn’t tell us until food was dropped. They did switch it out and got it to us in 5 minutes, which was confusing as to why it took over an hour for French fries. Sat at 4:54 didn’t get any food until about 6:15. The server did tell us they had a small kitchen, the heads up would have been appreciated as well has having our apps so we can eat something before for the main course. They did comp one of the apps for the inconvenience which was nice of them, I’ll give them that. While we were waiting we decided to look at the reviews of this place where lack of service and incredibly long wait times is a consistent issue here. We won’t...
Read moreCame here once before for a friend’s birthday and the food was great, so I decided to take my wife here to try it out because they have a lot of wings flavors…
This place was clearly understaffed especially for a weekend so service was badly lacking. One bartender and one server for the entire place, interchanging if they need to, which was often. I honestly felt for both of them because they were scrambling to take care of customers, forgetting things, etc. Prepare to wait for everything because there’s only so much the TWO staff members can do that are serving bar and tables. Clearly the owner is cheap and doesn’t care about their patrons getting good timely service…
Typical very loud bar environment so if that’s not your thing, just stay away. It’s not my thing but if the wings are good I’m willing to deal with it. Food here was ok to pretty good…. The ranch dip was oddly bland, thick and sucked. Garlic parm wings were good and crispy. Wife said her hot BBQ wings weren’t spicy at all and lacked flavor and sauce…
I would say you’re better off ordering takeout but they charge just for takeout. We noticed a $1 charge on our bill for a to-go order we put in. Normally I wouldn’t care, but this place already charges inflated prices for food… $20 for 12 wings, $7 for sour cream and chive fries…. It’s clear the owner is just trying to milk this place for all they can get…
Think we’ll stick to Tomkens. Much faster food and service times there and the food is just better. Not to mention the whole staff at Tomkens works as a team to take care of customers. Which is how it should be!
The owner here needs to wake up and figure it out before this place has no customers left…. Staffing your place properly is...
