I was in the Longfellow area one Saturday morning and realized how close I was to this bakery and since I've always wanted to go (I live in the NW metro so am not down here often) I had to stop. I had long read that this is considered one of the best bakeries in Minneapolis and think I agree! Plenty of delicious-looking and fresh pastries. Not too many people inside and the service was quick and friendly. We got a nutella croissant, pan au chocolate, almond croissant, raspberry danish and one snickerdoodle cookie. Everything was buttery, flakey and warm. The nutella was gooey, the pan au was very good, I did wish the almond croissant had more almond filling in it but it was still excellent, the snickerdoodle was the perfect cross between crispy and chewy and cinnamony but I think the favorite was the danish - it was so so delicious! Would I go back? Absolutely!

This place is amazing! I'm almost afraid to write anything good about it, because a typical weekend morning has a line out the door. But I can see why. It's best to visit during a weekday. Get the chocolate cake donut.....or the maple. It doesn't matter which cake donut, just get one! It's perfectly crisp on the outside with the perfect moist chew on the inside. If you arrive in the morning you'll probably need to vent the box because the donuts will still be hot. Yea, that good!! I've been going here for years, and they changed ownership a few years back (the original baker retired), but they still have the recipes. Everything here is good, and I've tried many items. Other favorites include tea cake, blondie, Mankato butter bar (something like this), cupcakes, turnovers......the list goes on and on.

*Double check your orders and charged wrong* I placed a phone order the night before for 10 glazed, 10 chocolate with sprinkles, and 10 maple donuts. This morning, I went in to pick up my order, which was the first time ordering from here for our company. After paying and taking the box to the office, I discovered they had given us chocolate donuts without sprinkles, they were also missing one glazed (in the photo two glazed donuts were taken already - still only adds to 9 qty) and upon checking the receipt, I noticed I was charged incorrectly. I was charged 20 glazed and 10 frosted donuts. Worked out for me because the glazed was cheaper than the frosted and it basically covered my missing donut anyways . Despite this, the donuts are really good, but the service was disappointing.

Really terrible experience with this store. I placed an order online on Saturday morning for my sons birthday on Monday. Had a really busy morning so I sent an Uber to pick up. He gets there vans there was no order! I got on the phone with a lady with most lackadaisical attitude ever. She asked for the receipt, I forwarded that to an email she provided. She didn’t check the email instead claimed to be on the same phone with her manager. Uber driver left ( of course I still paid). No one called me back until I called again and upon my insistence she reluctantly checks the mail again, finally miraculously saw the receipt and says ok now we can either put it together or we issue you a refund. All of this said in a very “take it or leave it, I have no time for you tone” she had zero empathy to the fact I could no longer meet up lunch time at my sons school. Nothing! She simply offered a refund and said there are just two of us here. You might have the best pastries but with zero customer service , it’s a NO.

Update: Drove down here at 12:20 and the employee said to me if “I only work here, if the owner didn’t drop a copy of your order then I am not going to go out of my way to find it” At this point, I realized there was nothing more to be said to an individual with...

I've been a huge fan of Baker's Wife since I moved into the neighborhood about 3 years ago. The cake donuts were really a work of art. So perfectly fried, light and airy. I would frequently rave about them and when I brought them into work someone actually said "this has changed my opinion of what a cake donut can be."

I've been back a few times since the ownership has changed and I'm sad to report that the quality of the cake donuts has changed as well. I read that the recipes are still the same, but there's just no way that they're being cooked the same way or with the same skill that they had been before. The donuts that I've tried since seem very dense or almost doughy. Your donuts had been a true hidden gem of South Minneapolis but it seems like since the change happened they are borderline generic cake donuts.

I don't want to be too negative, I know there might be a bit of an adjustment period. This store did only a couple types of donuts but they were perfect. I'm hoping that as the transition smooths out those same recipes really do shine through. Maybe scale back on the extra flavors until you've got the...

I had an interesting experience there on Monday. I stopped in to buy a friend and his wife some cheesecake. As I was looking at the options I asked one of the employees to give me two raspberry cheesecakes. As I continued to look I noticed a price difference so I asked which was more popular, vanilla or raspberry. I said on the sign the raspberry cheesecake is $4.50 and the vanilla is $5.75, the young lady said they were the same price. I said I would like the advertised price. The young lady grabbed the $4.50 sign and walked away without acknowledging my comment. Ok, so at the register they rang up as $5.75, I asked about the price difference (different employee) but no response, I took that to mean pay $5.75 or leave. If it wasn’t for the kindness I was trying to repay to a friend I would’ve just left but against my better judgment I paid the $5.75. I could care less for the price, the principle that it was advertised as one price but not honored & all inquiries ignored made me feel disrespected. Made me wonder if I looked different would I have been treated different. I will not return to...
