The way staff speaks to people is terrible. My family has lived in this neighborhood since the 1950s. This is not how our neighborhood treats people. Last night the cashier forced delivery drivers out of the delivery line and to the back of the customer line shouting “if you don’t like it, find another job.” That is an emotionally abusive thing to say to a human who makes money by the delivery not by the hour. The pay decreases as time to deliver increases. Essentially, if you don’t like being held hostage with a pay cut by the store while delivering their customers food get another job. Considering the driver is a contractor that’s servicing the customer and she is self-employed… that is a bizarre frame of mind. In addition, the delivery food was ready and just sitting on the back shelf getting cold during this incident. It was unnecessary and abusive. The staff didn’t realize that the drivers are contractors servicing orders that were already placed by customers and thus had nothing to do with the line of customers waiting to place orders or sit. The restaurant should train the employees better before putting them in front of customers.
If a driver leaves there is a penalty to the ratings which impact the type of deliveries and eventually drivers are unable to contract if they have too many incomplete orders. The restaurant knows that. In this case the driver was on her second order for their mutual customer. The driver lives in this neighborhood and would have taken the penalty on her ratings. The worst part is the driver is a customer and lives a few blocks away from Bill’s… It impacted her emotionally to be humiliated in front of her community members and to be marginalized and verbally harassed as she walked out of the store was degrading. You don’t know what’s going on in her life. Maybe the job is a break from an abusive situation or a transition from something. The staff treated her bad because they thought her only job is food delivery and they think it’s okay to treat people poorly based on that. She lives close by. It is convenient to have door dash while at home for extra cash because she’s a solo mom.
The driver has arranged for the restaurant to block her from getting orders and she will no longer be receiving orders from here due to abusive treatment and they also lost customers too. I hope this review helps them make positive changes and to promote spreading kindness and compassion.
I recommend the Crystal Garden as an alternative nearby. They’re a few blocks East at 4711 Hiawatha for Nokomis area neighborhood. Crystal Garden has been in our neighborhood for decades! The buffet is amazing and WAY better flavor. The employees are super sweet and always have been. They recognize folks by name and ask how we’re doing. It’s...
Read moreI'm reading Bill's garden A1 I've been going here for years ever since the 1990s I'm very highly upset and disappointed with the food that I got yesterday and very embarrassed I was telling everyone that was at my house how good their food is and really got let down once I receive my food my spring spring rolls were burnt I ordered three bags of chicken to only get eight pieces and that's because of the pandemic and the pans that make us over with my rice had too much soy sauce on it very salty I was really upset about the chicken because the chicken was undercooked it was slimy the breading was coming off of the chicken and once the breading came off of the chicken underneath it it was very soggy and like I said before I spent $82.26 and it was not worth it I'm very upset and very very hurt that I spoke so highly of this place that has been good to me for years to find out they don't take pride in their food like they used to the cashier looked at me crazy when I asked for extra duck sauce as if I didn't already spend a nice pretty penny for food that was cooked for an animal no four children oradults I would never recommend Bill's garden for anyone ever again in my life I will never buy food from Bell gardens a day in my life their customer service sucks the guy at the front is very rude and nasty or maybe he's just racist also for someone to spend as much money as I spent you would think that they would cook the food with love and happiness but...
Read moreI went during dinner rush hour. I walked in, ordered my food from the menus taped to ordering desk. Food took about 20-30 minutes to make which is very reasonable. While I waited on the chairs which were very convenient, LOTS of people came in and picked up their orders which I assume they had called in. Service was great! A young lady saw me waiting on the chairs and asked me if I had been helped yet. They all seem like nice people and honestly I'm not the kind of person who expects servers to bend over backwards for me (they are human too btw) so I gave them a tip.
When I got home to eat, I noticed a very generous handful of sauce packets were packed with my order, no utensils (that's ok, use less plastic) and my food was delicious. I ordered kungpao tofu and fried veggie spring rolls. Spring rolls were crispy and kungpao tofu is amazing. The veggies are crunchy and not soggy. They use watercress and a generous helping of fresh ginger! Very good flavors, not too salty or sweet or greasy.
I recommend calling ahead so you won't have to wait so long for your order. I highly recommend this place for vegetarian/vegan options and I assume their other food...
