Chinese Express — Restaurant in Minneapolis

first time coming here - 2/7/24. took my gf for her birthday around 1pm. there was an asian lady working there whose vibe and energy was extremely passive and just felt hostile. no smile, didn't greet us, didn't care to give insight on what items were, droggy in tone.. i don't appreciate this energy in a kitchen but, being that it's my gf birthday i settled with atleast take out. happy we did! not only was it freezing inside the restaurant but, we would have missed out on decent food. wasn't bad at all! had fried rice, fried chicken and wontons! the chicken was SO crunchy and just omg, amazing for a wing texture wise. the wontons were AMAZING and have a subtle sweet taste. not to mention there was quite a few wings in there!! like 10! my gf had a lunch combo with sesame chicken that came with fried rice for only $8-$9 - she said it needed more flavor but, that she loved the wings as well. only $21 for both of us so i'd say it's affordable. they also appeared to have a drive thru...

I wanted to like this restaurant. It's hard to find new good places to eat sometimes and their 4.5 star review got my attention.

The restaurant itself was ok but as another reviewer put it this is primarily a takeout place. The staff was very friendly, prompt and delivered the order correctly, sadly the food was sorely lacking.

They did use fresh ingredients and everything looked great but there was little or no flavor to the dishes.

The kung pao I ordered was bland even though I asked for it to be extra spicy. The fried rice was even worse, it wasn't just under seasoned there was no seasoning at all. Even their white rice had more flavor. The eggroll skins were under cooked and the eggroll as a whole was a grease laden sponge.

I probably won't try this...

My new go to Chinese restaurant! Came here for the first time today and I am soooo glad I did! The food is sooooo delicious and inexpensive! I ordered the hot and sour soup, rice, steamed dumplings, and shrimp egg roll and everything was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were relatively large and the price for everything was under $15! Plus my order was ready in under 15 minutes of placing it and the food was still hot and tasted fresh. It doesn’t get any better than that. The only con is the location. It’s located on Lake St in an area tha doesn’t seem like the safest. However, I LOVE that they have a drive thru!
