Had dinner at Pho Tau Bay on Oct 30th, 2023, and it was a delightful experience. My partner, who is Vietnamese, was in search of authentic food, and this place didn't disappoint. I had noodles with shrimp and crab meat, along with a unique Vietnamese coffee that I got to mix myself—all of which were fresh and full of flavor. The staff was attentive, making sure we were well-taken care of throughout the meal. While the restaurant is spacious, it could benefit from some renovations to enhance the ambiance. In terms of price, it was quite reasonable, especially considering the quality and authenticity of the food. If you're in the mood for genuine Vietnamese cuisine, I highly recommend Pho Tau Bay. It stands out in its authenticity and flavors compared to other similar establishments.

The food is great. I love their shrimp and sweet potato appetizer. We have tried their Pho and Vermicelli before, loved it. Tried their broken rice platter with grilled chicken and shrimp, loved it even more! The only issue I have is, their service. While we were seated promptly, while ordering I felt rushed. The waitress, she seemed annoyed that she has to come second around to take my order (which is within 3mins of the first time. We didn’t even call her. She decided 3mins is enough to decide). Other than that, ambience is good. I saw some reviews with security issues, luckily didn’t face anything like that. If you decide to go there, better know what you would like to order beforehand!

Here's the deal with Pho Tau Bay - it is for sure one of the tier 1 soup houses in town. Arguably the best of the godfather joints in Minneapolis. Super reliable and consistently flavorful, after 15 years of eating here I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. I more or less always get the number 6 or the 42 which will be no surprise because everyone loves those two. Outrageously great. If you get the 6 get some egg rolls too because a little crunch really adds to your meal. I mark this a 4 only due to ambiance, which in fairness has improved a lot over the years. And it kinda is what it is. But yeah.

On December 1, 2023 I went to this restaurant after work with my family and our children. The waitress rushed us the moment we came in. As soon as we can in, we were seated and water was brought to us as we were taking our coats off. Which is fine, but we just wanted to be situated first. Nonetheless, we stayed because thei ratings were amazing! We started with appetizers and each item was freezing cold, but tried our best to enjoy the meal. Next, we ordered the entrees. I did not enjoy my meal because it was entirely too salty. I kindly shared that with the waitress and she stared at me and walked away. The manager then came over with her husband and asked what was wrong with the food. I then stated that I did not like it. She then asked me why and I shared that it was too salty for my liking. She then proceeded to tell me that I should not order things I do not like. Her husband then came and played in the food and asked what was wrong with it. The manager then said that she has been working there for 27 years and everyone likes the food and told me that I should not come back anymore. The husband then put his hand in my face and told me to “pipe down.” I was disrespected, received terrible service, talked down to and I was nothing but respectful. I will never return...

We haven’t been in almost a year. Not sure what happened to the old guy who used to seat us but he’s been greeting us for the last twenty years. Hope he’s ok. This used to be my favorite place! Not sure what happened to their broth. I could honestly count on their broth time after time. Something was off that day. Broth just wasn’t as good as I remember and we go at least a few times a year. Spring rolls and the dipping sauce is still a must! I have to say though... because we’ve been long time customers you really notice when they try to make changes... like short-changing. Large size is actually a regular size bowl now, spring rolls have diminished, and still prices keep going up. We were a table of 8 and she just seem to have a number for our total. Didn’t see/get a receipt. She almost didn’t tell us tip is already added and didn’t try to stop us when we said we were going back to leave tip at the table after we got change. I know how Asian restaurants work though! They usually add tip. Hate to sound like Debbie Downer at my used to be favorite place.... but hey the spring rolls and banh mi...

On 12/1/2023, I went to have dinner with my lovely friends, daughter and nephew just to get the worst service I’ve EVER experienced. The waitress rushed us to order. Brung multiple cold appetizers to the table. The food was disgusting. When the waitress was told that the food was not good, she stared and walked away. Her and her coworkers continually talked in Vietnamese, pacing back and fourth and starring at our table. The manager and her husband came over and asked why my friend did not like her food. She said she didn’t because it was too salty. The manager then proceeded to play in the food, tell her if you don’t like it don’t order it and to not come back next time. When my friend tried to express her concerns the husband put his hand in her face and told her to pipe down. They continually talked in Vietnamese in our faces and lied about not being able to speak English. Upon paying the manager tried to ask for a tip, after the terrible service was given! I will never eat...
