I would give it a solid 6 out of 10. Love the sourdough crust. Soft and chewy without being too tough. Sourdough flavor really comes through and it is very good. The toppings on the pizza, however, were perhaps a bit overwhelming and underwhelming all at the same time. The Frenchy: sauce was a little too reminiscent of applesauce Jersey Shore: a lot of flavors going on, difficult to distinguish between. Portland: a lot of mushrooms
The rockstar of the evening was the plain cheese with added pepperoni. Seems like the “less is more” option is the best way to go with these pizzas. The ingredients really are high quality but seems like the specialty pizzas just have too many ingredients and very heavy on puréed ingredients…quality and individual flavors of the ingredients gets a little lost.
It is nice that the best brewery, Fair State, has an in-house food option and while I would opt to get the pepperoni pizza again, I would not choose to very often as $19 is a bit steep for a 12” pizza.
The serving of the pizza also needs a little work. The pizzas were brought to our table and handed to us to grab with the warning “the pan is very warm” (hot would be the better term as I did get a slight burn on my finger) and while the servers had pads to hold onto the “very warm pan” the diners do not and have to just grab the pizza with bare hands. In the end, not the worst dining experience I’ve ever had, but not the best. So...
Read moreSo far, I have only tried the “old school” which is a classic margarita pizza. I say “so far” becuase after trying this pie I definitely want to explore the rest of the menu. The basil was fresh, and red sauce was a great mix of savory and sweet, but the star was absolutely the mozzarella. I believe they make their own in house, and you can tell- maybe the best in the cities. As for the crust- it was perfect baked, and has a strong whole wheat almost sourdough flavor. It’s really unique for neopolitan-style pies and not something I’ve seen at other pizza places in town. Overall delicious and unique- can’t wait to try the rest of the menu (of course this pairs well with any of Fair State’s amazing brews!)
One note- our pizza was a little delayed in coming out, but the runner came to our table and let us know it was because the first cook wasn’t to their standards and they fired a new one for us. That level of attention to detail, care for their quality, and communication with customers REALLY sets Farnina Rossa apart from most...
Read moreI thought it was great! It’s inside the brewery next door, not sure if they have their own space or not but we ate in the brewery. It is a smaller space, we got there in time for a table but by the time we left people were sharing tables/standing so you might want to go earlier in the night to get a good seat. We got the sayzar salad which was great! Loved every bite. We also got a Detroit style pizza. It’s got what appears to be a whole wheat crust which if it is that’s great because it still tasted wonderful. We added hot honey to ours which I would recommend. We got grape soda on tap but they have lots of alcoholic, non alcoholic, thc/cbd drinks for there or to go. We parked on the street, it was free but a pretty busy street, not sure if there’s additional parking elsewhere...
